Default FYI....T206 POLAR BEAR confirmed list

The POLAR BEAR tobacco brand was produced in Middletown, Ohio (Factory 6).

The Demmitt and O'Hara cards provide us an insight into the timeline when the POLAR BEAR cards where initially introduced. The New York versions of Demmitt and O'Hara
were printed prior to the POLAR BEAR press runs. Demmitt and O'Hara were then traded to their respective St Louis teams for the 1910 season. Early in May, both players
were re-assigned to the Eastern League. The St Louis variations of Demmitt and O'Hara were printed ONLY with the POLAR BEAR back. Therefore, its fair to conclude that

Default 350-only series......

A picture is worth 1000 words....so, illustrated here are all 15 tobacco brands that were printed on the T206 Subjects in the 350-only Series............

Included here is the 1910 COUPON back for those of us who consider this 68-card sub-set as part of the T206 family.

Furthermore......

NOTE....the A-B-C-D connection

Default A-B-C-D connection

No coincidence ...... Kevin

My theory (posted on this forum in 2007) is...... During the Summer/Fall 1910, American Lithographic printed the AMERICAN BEAUTY 350 (frame)......
BROAD LEAF 350......CYCLE 350......and DRUM 350 backs on identical subjects from the 350-only series.

Proof of this "A-B-C-D" connection can be found by clicking onto to the following A-B-C-D links, and cross-comparing the T206's in these confirmed lists.

AMERICAN BEAUTY....190 subjects (complete)
http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=124927

BROAD LEAF.............171 subjects (to date)
http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=125062

CYCLE.....................190 subjects (complete)
http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=125615

DRUM.,....................112 subjects (to date)
http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=125269

Note....the BROAD LEAF and DRUM lists are not yet complete since these cards are considerably scarcer than the AMERICAN BEAUTY and CYCLE cards.

You can add Speaker to the list, Ted. I don't have a scan anymore, as I sold it a few months ago.

Default FYI....T206 POLAR BEAR confirmed list

Thanks everyone for your new inputs. The list will be updated tomorrow.....as, we approach 312 cards.....the theoretical number of
possible POLAR BEAR cards.

The definite No-Prints are........

Geo. Brown (Washington)
Dahlen (Brooklyn)
Demmitt (NY American)
Elberfeld (portrait-Washington)
O'Hara (NY Nat'l)

DANNY G (refz)

There are similarities between the OLD MILL's and the POLAR BEAR's. However, the Timeline of when these 2 brands were printed differs
by about 5 months.

The 350 series OLD MILL's were printed very early in 1910. The 350 series POLAR BEAR's were printed circa May/June 1910.

Subsequently, there were several press runs of both brands that included all the cards in the 350/460 series and the 460-only series.

Also, I might add that TOLSTOI shares many of the same fronts as OLD MILL and POLAR BEAR cards.

Great question.

Default E107collector

Hey....thanks guy for catching that one (Cobb-green). That entry is a mistake by me. It is an impossible front/back combo.

I have numerous other non-existent entries on this list that I am in the process of correcting at this moment. I transcribed
part of my OLD MILL list when I posted this POLAR BEAR list....my bad.

Anyhow, it will be corrected by this evening.

Default Polar Bear additions

As my collection of raw "collector-grade" T206s has grown to over 300 examples (wow), I am proud to say I can finally return to contributing to these threads. My contribution here is the following 3 unlisted polar bear-backed T206 cards, all Minor Leaguers:

Clancy
Hayden
Schirm

I do not have scans.

Not sure if my question got lost ion the mix, but was there confirmation of a Polar Bear Waddell Throwing or Portrait? I never seen one and since I am trying to obtain every Waddell example I can, I would be very interested to know if it exists.

Thanks - Rob
