Hi Ted,
Thanks so much for posting this list. However, when I count the cards you have listed as 350 Frame, I come up with only 190. Also, Mc Elveen is listed twice, so that makes the list 189, which is 3 short of 192 confirmed cards. ![]() Best Regards, Craig

Thanks for checking that out.....my typo errors.
The AB 350 (frame) list has been corrected to reflect 192 cards. And, although I've included Mowery, I am not confident that this card was printed with the AB 350 (frame) back. TED Z Last edited by tedzan; 06-22-2010 at 06:52 AM. |

Based on Ted Z's list of American Beauty confirmed cards, I've put together a list of cards that appear to be AB No-Prints. If you can confirm any of them as having an American Beauty back, please let us know.

29 of the 30 cards you are looking for with AB 460 backs will NOT be found. All 29 of these cards
are 350/460 series subjects, which have been confirmed with the Red HINDU backs. The AB 460 subjects and the Red HINDU subjects are mutually exclusive in the 350/460 series. John Frill is a 460-only card. He was transferred to Jersey City in the Eastern League in July 1910, well before the AB 460 were printed in the Spring of 1911. So, I don't think we will find him with an AB 460 back. Best regards, TED Z Last edited by tedzan; 06-21-2010 at 08:13 PM. |

Yes, it is very unlikely that those will be found with an AB460 back. But, the engineer in me says that because this mutual exclusion principle (for 350/460 Series, fronts with AB460 backs will also be found with Uzit backs, but won't be found with BL460 or Red Hindu backs) is based on a sample of the population rather than the entire population of T206's ever produced, there remains a statistical (though perhaps very slight) uncertainty in the mutual exclusion principle.
And if we state that these will not be found with an AB460 back, then people will be less likely to look for them; thus reducing the chance of finding an exception to the principle if there is one. Kinda like in quantum physics where the act of observing affects the observation. This is all the more important with T206 because exceptions to the rules have been demonstrated. Some examples include: The 150 Only group does not have any Sweet Cap 150 Factory 649 Overprint backs EXCEPT for Powers. The 350 Only group has AB350 (Frame) backs EXCEPT for Nichols Batting, which has an AB350 (No Frame) back. The 350-460 group have all been confirmed with Piedmont 350-460 Factory 42 backs EXCEPT for Tinker Bat Off. And please understand that it is not my intention to demean your work in any way. We would not have achieved our current level of understanding of T206 without your efforts. ![]() Always Best Regards Craig

Regarding your......
"....is based on a sample of the population rather than the entire population of T206's ever produced, this mutual exclusion principle (for 350/460 Series, fronts with AB460 backs will also be found with Uzit backs, but won't be found with BL460 or Red Hindu backs) " From an engineer (EE) to an engineer....my "mutually exclusive" rules (AB 460/UZIT vs BL 460/Red HINDU) are not simply based on the sampling of certain populations of T206 cards. The more significant factor that I based these rules on.....is timeline. We have American Litho. (ALC) documentation that dates the printing and release of the UZIT cards to the Spring of 1911. The AB 460 cards were destined to Durham, NC (Factory 42); therefore, they were printed simultaneously with the UZIT cards. I am suggesting that sheets of T206's (comprised of approx. 30 cards) with the same fronts were printed with both these backs. Prior to that, in the Fall/Winter of 1910, ALC used sheets of T206 fronts (comprised of approx. 30 cards) to print both the BL 460 and the Red HINDU backs on them. Furthermore, the 30 subjects on the AB 460/UZIT sheets complemented the 30 subjects of the BL 460/Red HINDU sheets. Of course, this scenario applies only to the 55 cards in the 350/460 series and the 6 super- prints. Certainly, the absence of any of these 6 super-prints with AB 460 and UZIT backs serves to support this theory. Craig The Nicholls (batting) card was intended to be a 350/460 series subject; so, this is why this card was printed with an AB 350 (No Frame) back. However, upon being traded to Cleveland, Nicholls ended his Major League BB career on April 25, 1910 and returned to his farm in Maryland. Therefore, it is fair to conclude that ALC did not print his card with any 460 series backs. Also, I don't think by stating that these cards do not exist with an AB 460 back, that collectors will be less likely to look for them. There are always a number of guys out there that are motivated in finding exceptions to the rules.....and, that is fine, it's the American way ![]() TED Z |

Hey Ted,
Thank you for all the great info, it is much appreciated. Now let's see if I understand Nichols Batting. If it was intended to be in the 350/460 Group, rather than the 350 Only Group, but got discontinued before the 460 Backs of the 350/460 Group were issued, then ... Nichols Batting Should potentially be found with the following backs: AB350 (No Frame) DRM350 EPDG OM P350 PB SOV350 (Apple Green) SC350 Fact 25 SC350 Fact 30 TOL And Should Not be found with the following backs: 350 Only Group Backs AB350 (Frame) BL350 Car Brights CYC350 460 Backs of the 350/460 Group AB460 BL460 CYC460 Hindu (Red) Lenox P350-460 Fact 25 P350-460 Fact 42 SC350-460 Fact 25 SC350-460 Fact 30 SC350-460 Fact 42 SC350-460 Fact 42 OP Uzit So, Nichols Batting is like the reverse of Kleinow Boston and Smith Chicago & Boston, which are really 350/460 Subjects without the 350 backs. Is there any hope for me? ![]() Best Regards, Craig (Note, I just checked my two Nichols Batting cards and I can confirm the SOV350 Apple Green back, as well as the Polar Bear)

NOTE.....important info for you front/back collectors of T206 team's, player's, or type cards.
The AMERICAN BEAUTY 460 cards and the UZIT cards are essentially matched pairs....that is, they have in common identical fronts. Furthermore, these 2 backs are mutually exclusive with the BROAD LEAF 460 and Red HINDU cards. This rule applies only to the 350/460 series cards. TED Z |

Your experience collecting these AB 460 cards is typical. The majority of the AB 460 cards are considerably tougher than what they are ranked in the "T206resource" site. However, the considerably more available Exclusive 12 subjects with AB 460 backs significantly skew the AB 460 ranking lower than it actually should be. Research indicates that 60 of these subjects with the AB 460 back should rank as high as the red HINDU cards. TED Z . |

Hi Ted,
I have a question for you. In post 20 in this thread: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?p=1448952 you gave a list of subjects with fewer than 4 known examples in AB 460. Of that short list, Conroy, Manning, Pelty, and Willis are not listed in the most difficult group, group 3, in this thread. Was this an oversight or is there something about these four that should make them easier than the others with fewer than 4 known examples? Thanks

Since I posted that prior list....
Conroy Manning McQuilllan Overall Pelty Steinfeldt Wagner Wilhelm Willis Wiltse ....further research indicates that Conroy, Manning, Pelty, and Wills are borderline candidates with 4 examples each. For example Manning: Your card, my card, and I have recently seen two beat up cards of Manning/AB 460. TED Z . |

You have some fine looking AB 460 cards. Thanks for displaying them. Yes....the POP report data shows only 2 - Chance cards and 3 - Meyers cards with AB 460 backs. In addition to those, I have an SGC graded AB 460 Chance; and, I had an ungraded AB 460 Chance. Also, I have an ungraded AB 460 Meyers. Nevertheless, these Chance and Meyers cards are tough; but , not as tough as some the other AB 460 subjects. TED Z . |

I have mentioned this once before but it didn't receive any opinions either
way so I thought I would try it here. All of the confirmed Brown Lenox subjects are also AB 460 subjects so I was thinking it might be possible that some(or all) of the sheets used for the AB 460's were also used for the Brown Lenox. While the Brown Lenox is an extremely rare back (22 different subjects confirmed so far) it seems odd that none of the possible 34 non AB 460 subjects has been confirmed with a Brown Lenox. So could it be that not all Black Lenox subjects are possible with Brown Lenox and only AB 460 subjects are? |

Very interesting observation, Pat.
We do know that some of the sheets used to print the AB 460 backs were also used to print the UZIT backs. But it remains to be seen if this is also true for the AB 460 cards and the brown LENOX cards, since (to date) there are only 22 examples of the brown LENOX cards. Furthermore, it is quite puzzling that 4 subjects (Lajoie, Overall, Pfeister, Wagner) of these 22 brown LENOX cards have yet to be confirmed with black LENOX backs ? ? ? ? Incidentally, there are 35 subjects that are AB 460 No-Prints (not 34). TED Z . |

I agree with you Ted, it's not much to gauge off with only 22 confirmed subjects but with 32% of the subjects being AB 460 no prints you would think at least a couple of the Confirmed Brown Lenox would be from this group if they are a possible front back combo.

Nice clean looking Zach Wheat. Reminds me of how I got started on my adventure to complete the American Beauty 460 sub-set. Back in 2006,
I broke up my 2nd T206 set in order to start a 3rd set with all PIEDMONT cards. The Zach Wheat card in my 2nd set was an AB 460. I thought it was a pretty cool card. So, I decided to also take on the challenge of doing an AB 460 run. .. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() TED Z __________________________________________________ ____________________________________ Still searching for these 4 cards to complete my AMERICAN BEAUTY 460 sub-set (74 subjects) CAMNITZ (hands over head)....DOYLE (portrait)....McGRAW (portrait-cap)....TINKER (bat off shoulder) . |

Nice observation....Conroy's LENOX back is certainly brown. OK, for starters, the Exclusive 12 subjects in the 460-only series are Double-Printed (or Triple-Printed) with AB 460 backs. However, NONE of these 12 will ever be found with brown LENOX. But, of course we know that these 12 guys are black LENOX No-Prints. My theory regarding these LENOX "brownies" is simple, they are the result of a wrong ink press run of normally black LENOX cards. Eventually, Conroy (Pfeister and Wagner) will be found wiith black LENOX backs. If you're looking to draw some (or any) connection with other T206 back press runs, consider PIEDMONT 460/42 regarding the 460-only series "brownies"......... 460-only Series......12 subjects confirmed with P460/42......6 of these subjects are also confirmed with brown LENOX (to date) Bergen (catching) Chase (Trophy)................brown LENOX Latham...........................brown LENOX Marquard (pitching)..........brown LENOX Merkle (throwing).............brown LENOX Murray (portrait) Overall (blue sky) Schlei (portrait)................brown LENOX Schlei (batting) Schaefer (Washington) Seymour (portrait) Wiltse (portrait-cap)..........brown LENOX Incidentally, I have to slightly modify your statement..... "While the Brown Lenox is an extremely rare back (22 different subjects confirmed so far) it seems odd that none of the possible 34 non AB 460 subjects has been confirmed with a Brown Lenox.". Actually, there are 35 AB 460 No-Prints. Ames (hands above head) has never been confirmed with an AB 460 back. Specific T206 printing patterns strongly sug- gest that this Ames card will never be found with the AB 460 back. But, will possibly be found with a red HINDU back. TED Z .
