Ha !
I was testing you guys to see if any one really reads these lists and would notice the absence of Demmitt and O'Hara :) It took you less than 5 minutes....I'm proud of you, ole buddy. TED Z |
You know I hardly ever read them. I guess I picked the right one to get started.:)

T206 Polar Bear backs
Ted,
I have 2 Merle 'Doc' Adkins cards graded by SGC. Respectfully, Dave |
Ted,
Have the Waddell Polar Bear cards been confirmed? There are no examples on the SGC pop reports as well as VCP. Thanks - Rob |
I have Cy Barger (see National pickups thread).

Ted,
I have four to add to this list....I have Arellanes, Barbeau and McLean (shown below). I also have Beckley, but don't have it scanned. Thanks. Steve |
You can add Speaker to the list, Ted. I don't have a scan anymore, as I sold it a few months ago.
|
Ted,
is this subset comparible with old mill? i always thought polar bears were more towards 350 350/460 subjects? thanks for the input! regards Danny |

FYI....T206 POLAR BEAR confirmed list
Thanks everyone for your new inputs. The list will be updated tomorrow.....as, we approach 312 cards.....the theoretical number of
possible POLAR BEAR cards. The definite No-Prints are........ Geo. Brown (Washington) Dahlen (Brooklyn) Demmitt (NY American) Elberfeld (portrait-Washington) O'Hara (NY Nat'l) DANNY G (refz) There are similarities between the OLD MILL's and the POLAR BEAR's. However, the Timeline of when these 2 brands were printed differs by about 5 months. The 350 series OLD MILL's were printed very early in 1910. The 350 series POLAR BEAR's were printed circa May/June 1910. Subsequently, there were several press runs of both brands that included all the cards in the 350/460 series and the 460-only series. Also, I might add that TOLSTOI shares many of the same fronts as OLD MILL and POLAR BEAR cards. Great question. TED Z |
Cobb green
Ted,
How many known examples are there for the Ty Cobb Green w/ Polar Bear back? Do you have a scan? Tony |
Ted,
I have a Billy Maloney. Derek |
E107collector
Hey....thanks guy for catching that one (Cobb-green). That entry is a mistake by me. It is an impossible front/back combo.
I have numerous other non-existent entries on this list that I am in the process of correcting at this moment. I transcribed part of my OLD MILL list when I posted this POLAR BEAR list....my bad. Anyhow, it will be corrected by this evening. TED Z |
Polar Bear additions
As my collection of raw "collector-grade" T206s has grown to over 300 examples (wow), I am proud to say I can finally return to contributing to these threads. My contribution here is the following 3 unlisted polar bear-backed T206 cards, all Minor Leaguers:
Clancy Hayden Schirm I do not have scans. |
Not sure if my question got lost ion the mix, but was there confirmation of a Polar Bear Waddell Throwing or Portrait? I never seen one and since I am trying to obtain every Waddell example I can, I would be very interested to know if it exists.
Thanks - Rob |
Rob,
Neither of the Waddell cards exist with a Polar Bear back(both are 150/350 group). |
Thanks Mike!!

OK guys, the POLAR BEAR list is corrected as of now. Check it out....and your questions of certain cards should be answered.
Again, I'm sorry that on my initial list I had posted some cards that are not possible with POLAR BEAR backs. I had merged two lists and that was the cause of the problem. I'll attribute my "boo-boo's" to National Show fatigue :) TED Z |
FYI....T206 POLAR BEAR confirmed list
Emailed input of Armbruster with a POLAR BEAR back added to the list.
Still looking for more cards with POLAR BEAR backs. Or, have we listed all that there is ? I have a feeling that this list of 248 confirmed cards may be it. The reason I say this is explained on my follow-up thread, posted today. Check-out my new thread...."Unconfirmed POLAR BEAR cards vs 1910 COUPON cards". Thanks again for all your new POLAR BEAR inputs. TED Z |

Ted,
i have no new data to add but had to chime in with my appreciation for your fine work here! also glad to see Paul M. back in the midst of things with his fast climb back to 300 ---well on his way to 'taming' the Monster again!!! best, barry |

Thanks for these 2 new inputs. Chappelle and Ganzel have been added to the list.
We are up to 250 confirmed POLAR BEAR cards. TED Z |
Howell (Portrait)
Hi Ted,
The year before last I put together what I believed (and still believe) to be a complete T206 Polar Bear back subset. I believe that there are 250 cards in this subset. However, I do not believe Howell (Portrait) should be on the confirmed list. I think someone confused it with Howell (Standing). In fact, on your other thread (Unconfirmed POLAR BEAR cards vs 1910 COUPON cards), you list Howell (Portrait) as a probable No-Print. And I've searched under most every stone for three years and have not found a Howell (Portrait) with a Polar Bear back. So this would reduce your list to 249 confirmed with Polar Bear backs..... But there do exist 250 with Polar Bear backs..... Should I reveal the 250th????? Ok.....:) It is Doc Crandall (with Cap)!!!!!:D If anyone can confirm any additional T206's with Polar Bear backs, I would love to know! Always Best Regards, Craig |
Craig W.
You are (W)right....you will not find Howell (Portrait) with a Polar Bear back. I have sratched this card from the list.
And, I have added Crandall. Thanks for this new input. Best regards, TED Z |

OK....I'm reprising this this thread in hopes of finding a few more POLAR BEAR cards.

FYI....T206 POLAR BEAR confirmed list
The POLAR BEAR tobacco brand was produced in Middletown, Ohio (Factory 6).
The Demmitt and O'Hara cards provide us an insight into the timeline when the POLAR BEAR cards where initially introduced. The New York versions of Demmitt and O'Hara were printed prior to the POLAR BEAR press runs. Demmitt and O'Hara were then traded to their respective St Louis teams for the 1910 season. Early in May, both players were re-assigned to the Eastern League. The St Louis variations of Demmitt and O'Hara were printed ONLY with the POLAR BEAR back. Therefore, its fair to conclude that http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...StLouisSGC.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...McGlynn25x.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...tLouisSGCA.jpg Imperial Tobacco (C46)....Eastern (International) League cards http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/d...mmittohara.jpg To date, 250 subjects have been confirmed with the POLAR BEAR backs.
