I'm a DiMaggio collector. Truthfully, I collect just about anything that catches my attention but, over time, DiMaggio items have come on board more often than any other so I figured out I must be a "DiMaggio collector."
This just arrived a couple days ago...DiMaggio rounding 3rd after a homer in '47. Frank Crosetti is coaching 3rd. I watched Mr. DiMaggio in public on just one occasion. He seemed businesslike, somewhat tight-lipped and, perhaps, a bit surly. My father met him in Las Vegas in the mid 60's. He called it the most "unbelievable encounter with any type of celebrity he ever had". He said that DiMaggio was in a great mood and even posed for a couple of pictures with folks who appeared to know him. He was expecting a very prim and proper man and said DiMaggio used language he would have never imagined. I had an opportunity to meet and speak with Dom DiMaggio at the Italian American Sports HOF when I was a teen. He was as kind a person as I ever met in my life.
