I'm probably overly suspicious by nature, and I'm sure I've rejected legit cards because of my nature, but when you see a card with borders like this how can you NOT question all the high grade stuff floating around out there?

True Scott, but that Evers does have extra thick borders. Still a lot of the high graded T206 cards seem to have 1/3rd of this size border.
And thinking about this from a different perspective, how many nicer raw T206 cards still have borders like this... Brian |

To me this is what an ideal T206 looks like. I'd take this over a narrow or short 8 every day of the week.

If the holders are made to fit the listed card size, and I have no reason to think they're not, the Evers is actually slightly short top to bottom.

If you do a simple search you’ll see most Bob Grooms Have large borders and most Chief Meyers green have narrow borders - not all but most - I picked up a Groom Howe McCormick that’s also physically larger than any of my other T206

I agree. Mainly because I remember a point in time during the 1980's where it was almost common practice with certain sellers to trim every card they had. Because so much trimming was being done, there was not a whole lot that you could use as comparison. This was before anyone was slabbing anything, and before the internet was avaliable to the public. It was also one of the reasons that I didn't collect tobacco cards as a kid. Because I knew nothing about them, and there was no easy way to learn about them. It was no different than coins being cleaned and stamps having cancelations removed and perforations being repunched.

When David Hall's T206's were being auctioned off by HA, many of the higher graded cards looked suspect to me.

My favorite T206 is a Red Cobb with a Old Mill back. One of the highest graded I have seen has by far the smallest borders I have seen on a T206 with a number grade.

I find a new excitement now, when I spot an original card. I try harder to add it to the collection. Condition is not always as important; to be able to hold in my hands, the same card as that kid in 1909. I pull an original out at card shows; take it out of the sleeve; hand it to the kid and ask him how it feels to hold a 110 year-old baseball card. For me, these are parts of the hobby to not lose.
It's cool to feel like a kid again. Ben "I love baseball history backstory; especially when it involves cards." |

I wonder how he was able to get such high grades from his opinion seller of choice?

He bought most of his stuff in holders and paid too dollar. It may have been going on but I am not sure why he would have been such an aggressive buyer and honestly the cards I sold his buyer were in the same grade when I saw them in the heritage auction. But I know Doug rarely passes up the chance to take a dump on PSA wether deserved or just in his mind.

I saw many fat boardered T206’s before grading. Afterwards not so many. 😳

I think the general rule is to expect smaller cards in higher grade holders. Some of the highest grade Goudey barely have borders.
