When David Hall's T206's were being auctioned off by HA, many of the higher graded cards looked suspect to me.

My favorite T206 is a Red Cobb with a Old Mill back. One of the highest graded I have seen has by far the smallest borders I have seen on a T206 with a number grade.

I find a new excitement now, when I spot an original card. I try harder to add it to the collection. Condition is not always as important; to be able to hold in my hands, the same card as that kid in 1909. I pull an original out at card shows; take it out of the sleeve; hand it to the kid and ask him how it feels to hold a 110 year-old baseball card. For me, these are parts of the hobby to not lose.
It's cool to feel like a kid again.

I wonder how he was able to get such high grades from his opinion seller of choice?

He bought most of his stuff in holders and paid too dollar. It may have been going on but I am not sure why he would have been such an aggressive buyer and honestly the cards I sold his buyer were in the same grade when I saw them in the heritage auction. But I know Doug rarely passes up the chance to take a dump on PSA wether deserved or just in his mind.

I saw many fat boardered T206’s before grading. Afterwards not so many. 😳

They are in private collections. I have 520 raw in a binder and pages.

Me too and I agree completely. When I put the set of 520 together (minus the Big 4), in the late 80’s, I bought all creaseless examples with exish corners. There are many ‘fat border’ cards. The T205 and T206 sets are my only sets without slabs.

Bingo. I know many may not want to hear this, but you need to very skeptical of high graded tobacco cards. Especially newer graded ones.

In my mind all of my dumps are meant to be taken on all opinion sellers, I rarely (if ever) aim them at individual opinion sellers. It's hard to not be perceived as aiming at the one who has the greatest legacy of arguably bad opinions, especially when their very first opinion fits so well into this thread.

Can't beat the centering and colors on that one, Phil. Great card.

Centered a bit top to bottom

I would take that card over ANY Mantle card in existence, or any other card.

Me too if it was to sell. I have many cards I would not trade for it to keep.
