There is another thread that asks which card will increase the most over the next 10 years, and it made me wonder which one has increased the most over the LAST 10 years. The most recent reported 1952 Topps Mantle PSA 8 sale was $1.5 million, about 20 times its $75k price in 2012.
That seems like a pretty good return, but then again a 1952 Topps Minoso PS 4 recently sold for $750, which is 27 times the $28 one sold for in 2013. Jackie Robinson's 1952 Topps card in PSA 5 was about $1,100 in 2013 and is now around $24,000, about 22 times its old price. There must be some cards that have increased more than that. The '48/'49 Leaf Jackie has gone up a lot. If you look at midgrade, PSA 5s were selling for about $1,300 in 2012 and now sell for about $40K. That's an increase of almost 3,000%
But if you look at PSA 8, it goes from about $7.5K in 2012 to a recent sale of $468K, an increase of over 6,000%. Last edited by cgjackson222; 12-15-2022 at 01:25 PM. |

2011 Topps Update Mike Trout went from $20 or so to $2,000 (100x movement) or so during a ten year stretch that ended quite recently.
PSA 10s go for about $1,500 right now. In December of 2012, Trout was about $50. 30x movement compared to this date 10 years ago. For anyone who is about to write, "well, Ack-shoo-uh-lee, that's not an apples to apples..." Just stop. in 2012, the Trout was a base card from a one-year-old product. You could have picked up gem mint raw cards all day long.

Off the top of my head, that would be my guess as well. A quick search of VCP shows a PSA 5 selling for $7,170 at the end of 2012 and $1,032,000 in July of 2021, an increase of 144X or 14,400%.
This card may have backed off a bit since then, but it has obviously seen a spectacular increase in price. Even examples in PSA 2 range have increased ~ 40X from around $2,500 to $100,000 in the last 10 years. Last edited by Baseball Rarities; 12-15-2022 at 03:30 PM. |

The PSA 3, 1921 Exhibits Ruth is up 21.5x since 2013 -- $950 in 2013 vs $20,400 most recent sale in 2022 Clearly neither of these are the winners, but I think the further the narrative that cards are solid investments and those owning cards in 2013 have done VERY well in the last ten years if they did not sell Last edited by Rhotchkiss; 12-15-2022 at 03:23 PM. |

Those are great cards, but they have not increased in value even close to the amount that the 1925 Exhibits of Gehrig has.
