Here is a link to the OldCardboard.com webpage which identifies Cobb's "Top 5 Rookie Cards":
http://www.oldcardboard.com/ref/rook...tail.asp?id=64 Jeff's Detroit Team Postcard pre-dates all five true Rookie Cards (Individual Appearances) and here is the 1905 W601 Detroit Premium which is the earliest image of Cobb on a ML collectible: Last edited by bcbgcbrcb; 12-27-2009 at 03:01 PM. |

I'm not 100% certain but I recall seeing some PCs with cancellation dates at or around the date Kevin provided for the W600.

I know the RC rules are different past a certain point, but what is Cobb's first ever pack released Major League baseball card?

If a rookie can be a multi player card, then why isnt the 1967 Topps Mets Team card Nolan Ryans rookie card? He is pictured on it.

For me, a distinction as to whether or not a team card "counts" as a card of a particular player, is if the player is actually identified by name on the card (either front or back). That's just me.

I vote for the W600 i.e. a card, nationally distributed and a single picture.
I still can not fully accept a postcard being classified as a card. Same goes for a team card being labeled for an individual player. This doesn't subtract from the beauty of any of them, just my thoughts for the people that must have cards labeled as rookies or not. It is a big deal for many collectors. Now, if only Sporting Life had the foresight to label the team card as "Tiger Future Stars" - then you would have a rookie card. Does anybody have any of the 1901-17 Police Gazette Supplements #19 Ty Cobb to show? Also, all of us don't know anything as I believe Beckett has the T206 listed as the Cobb rookie in their definitive Rookie Book. |
