Alan...love those Charlotte cards....

I believe I posted this painting before but us old time collectors probably remember Renatta Galasso as one of the earliest mail order card dealers. She published a magazine called the "Baseball Hobby Card Report" and back in the Summer of '84 Cal Ripken was the cover subject.

The original artwork for this cover was done by Ron Lewis and I was able to purchase the original artwork a few years ago:

Bill,

That's a nice piece. I remember Renata Galasso and purchased a few items from her. She also sponsored a couple of card sets in the 1970's and 80's. Here are some Orioles cards from her sets.

Day 319 (November 14, 2020 – 319)

I’ve only seen this publication once since I’ve been collecting Brooks so I’m sure there’s not many of these remaining. I enjoy the odd-ball items that are not seen every day. This is a small pamphlet or booklet from a 1966 Knights of Columbus events, Sports Night, where Brooks attended. Brooks is pictured on the cover along with sportscaster Van Miller, football linebacker Vince Costello, and HOF quarterback Jack Kemp.

Default 1992 7-Eleven Baltimore Legends cups

For some reason, I have many many more cups in my collection than I need. Whenever I'm at a game, I just have to check to see if there's a cup I don't have.

I believe these cups were distributed at 7-Eleven stores in the Baltimore area around 1992. Labeled as Baltimore Legends, I've always wondered about the group of players selected (no offense to Paul Blair) and whether more were planned. Brooks Robinson is part of the set, but no Frank Robinson or Jim Palmer.

Mark...Love the KOC program...I've never seen one before!

In 2011 the event program for the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation Gala had a painting of the Ripken Family by famed baseball artist Dick Perez (of Perez-Steele , HOF, etc.) on the cover.

The painting was not part of any auction that evening and shortly thereafter I e-mailed Mr. Perez for details on it and he responded that the original painting was donated to the Foundation to raise money (there were no prints, giclees, etc.).

The 2012 Gala comes around and lo and behold I now see the original painting among their silent auction pieces....I was a volunteer at the event and asked if I could participate in the auction and was told I could...

Fortunately I was the high bidder that evening and am very proud to own a Dick Perez original (of the Ripken Family no less):

Man, you guys are showing some GREAT artwork.

Day 320 (November 15, 2020 – 320)

How bout a few award photos today. I may be off on the year (I should be close), but I believe the first photo is Brooks receiving the 1965 Rawlings Gold Glove Award.

Next Brooks is receiving the 1966 Arkansan of the Year Award presented by Bob Gerbert. The award was presented to Brooks at the most famous businesses in Arkansas at the time, the Marion Hotel, which was in Little Rock.

I’m not sure what this last award is for, but it’s likely something special; anyone know?

Thanks Alan....I really couldn't believe it myself...My thoughts were that the majority of the people who attended the Gala did not really know who Dick Perez was.....Up to that point I really wasn't an "art" guy but that purchase changed my thoughts on it when it came to adding things to the collection.

Here is the original artwork (artist Kevin Penix) for the 2018 Topps Gallery card of Cal Jr.:

Mark...

Very nice vintage photos of Brooks....If you look closely at the Gold Glove one, it appears that Brooks isn't wearing his jersey...Appears to be a #2 behind the trophy?
