I'll take it is the magic phrase on here..... when I was a kid, I was selling a lawn mower out front of our house (this was back in the 1960s) .... I was asking $25 .... a guy I didnt know from down the street stopped and looked at it and said "Let me think about it" and left with no offer and I didnt even know who he was and how to reach him. My nextdoor neighbors Dad came by later and said he would take it for the $25 dollar asking price.........I told him well I dont know someone else was looking at it first....told my Dad and he said SELL MR YEE THE MOWER ..... so the deal was done and I learned that money on the table trumps "I will think about it" every time with no regrets! Never did hear from that other guy either!

I received a card in the mail today from a member who bought it right before I could, here on the BST. He made some decent pocket change too in selling it to me. Early bird gets the worm...

I understand the "I'll take it" unwritten rule but if you're negotiating back and forth on a price, shouldn't you let them know that you have another offer/buyer and give them a chance to match? Seems like the right thing to do, since they were first.

I don't know the specifics of where they were in the negotiation, but regardless if someone is negotiating with me for less than my asking and then another person says "I'll take it" the card will be sold for the full asking price. IMO its only fair to the person who committed to buy the card w/o negotiation to honor that commitment to buy

Thank you everyone. To be clear, neither the buyer or Tony was the first to talk to me about the card and everyone had the same offer. I get why Tony is mad and I have no reason to believe that he is anything other than honorable. If he wishes to be upset with me that is his right. I had multiple inquiries and I accepted the first firm commitment to buy. The buyer inquired about another card and I had to decline that inquiry since another buyer had committed to that card. It is always going to be hard when there are multiple interested parties. I tried to be as fair as possible and if someone is upset I truly regret that. If people want to bash me on this it is fine, but I do want to emphasize that I am not mad at Tony. Another buyer committed literally as I was responding to his request for additional pictures. Tony was acting in good faith and I appreciate that.

Just wanted to add that I bought a card from Robert and have inquired about several others and my card was delivered the next day and Robert has replied to my questions very quickly - he is great to deal with IMO.

We were negotiating price, Jim. In every sale I've done, the first offer made always got a heads up if someone makes a better offer. I give them the option to match the price or surpass it. That's always been my method and I've been given an opportunity to up my offer on cards I've been negotiating over. Generally, people will state up front in their sale that "SOLD" or "I'll take it" trumps all negotiating. Anyway, that's how I've always operated and will continue to. Seems to be the fairest method in my opinion. I don't have any grudge or resentment. Just disappointed.
