I won the Persons and Westlake
but lost out on three others.

Last month a Young portrait 4 sold for 3200. This month another sells for 8900. That’s a nice return.

I think only two bidders participated over 3500. One with 10 feedback, one with all PWCC activity. So it goes.

Noting that bidders of certain types of cards are constantly or exclusively going to PWCC these days hardly surprises me. Last edited by Snapolit1; 01-14-2019 at 10:39 AM. |

That's just not true that all other sellers are being shunned/ignored. I see guys doing just fine with nice cards every day. Perhaps they aren't bringing in world records with the stickered stuff, but otherwise...

From the description - "Shows like a '5' in every way we know to view a T206." - Well, 5s were $3800 cards until Dec-2018 when a 5 PQ became a $10k card. Except this one is actually a 4, not a 5. Four rounded corners, slightly off center to the left = certified high end? Another example, at least of some description "flowering", the Cobb bat off 4.5. "...four mostly sharp corners...wear to the extreme corner tips...". I would ask that you look again, maybe top left is sorta "mostly sharp" (not really), but the other three are definitely touched with bottom right having a fold (?) and bottom left absolutely rounded. Rounded and sharp do not appear as synonyms anywhere I can locate. Still equals certified high end? Seems I don't actually understand what these designations actually mean anymore. Seems to me it's just a "prop" used for nice looking cards that has become it's own "thing". We've beaten that discussion to death already, but I guess you can't disagree with the auction results of those stickers. Quote:
I bid on 70 cards, won zero. Was underbidder on one - the 1928 Star Candy Ted Lyons authentic. Looking forward to round two of basically just watching TV tonight. |

I managed to get the E92 Cy Young SGC 5. At $1528, it seemed like a steal considering some of the other prices.

I was very pleased with a pickup of a PSA 2.5 Lajoie with bat... well under comparable prices.

I bid on 3 card, were solid bids or so I thought. Got none. Like I said in the collecting focus thread, my recent focus has been outbid notices.

The Young card was not nice enough to warrant the price. The last one was. I am so glad I picked mine up at the national this year.
The green cobb is still a buy in my opinion. I think it is setting precidence for the other big time HOF portraits. It seems demand is through the roof. You can’t give money away in this country right now. It is so hard to find workers let alone quality workers. Last edited by MichelaiTorres83; 01-14-2019 at 09:52 AM. |

What? Maybe I did not connect the dots there properly.
Everyone is busy and jacking up the prices to get work done. Sometimes by double and triple what it cost last year. There are a lot of people right now making a lot of extra disposible income. I am not sure where you live but when I call 30 electricians and when I get 1 phone call back for an estimate on a multi thousand dollar job and it is priced at 300 an hour, that tells me something. I can not get a paver to call me back, a tree guy, a plumber and the list goes on. Like I said, I can not give my money away. Last edited by MichelaiTorres83; 01-14-2019 at 10:06 AM. |

First time using Gavelsnipe. I went 0-4 but really didn't come very close to getting any of the bids. Looks like I need to sharpen my pencil a bit.

I'll take some money if you're handing it out. I'll need it to afford one of those portraits

I always watch the Gehrig stuff—-maybe not as close as another board member— and I was surprised the 1933 Goudey went so high. Big spread between it and the 1934 Goudey listed on ebay. I had no idea it would trade so high.

I also noticed the 34 5 went for more than the 6. A nice example of "buying the card." |
