I believe the photographer probably instructed him to do that to make a better photo composition. Just my guess.

Very rare shot of Ruth and Gehrig Barnstorming.Type 1 Images of just the two of them are damn near impossible...no coaches, no agents, no randoms.. no F N chickens etc. If anyone has shots of only these two barnstorming in uniform..I'm a buyer! Happy to add it.

That was my thought. Old studio photos often show people with props that aren't theirs.

Thanks guys...that makes perfect sense. I was getting worried there for a minute, but nothing screams "Rabbit Maranville" more than those ears!
