REA Memorabilia Pickups
1 Attachment(s)
The card guys have a rather steady stream of card pickups on the other side so let's see some memorabilia wins. Solid example of this baseball bank was my only win.
|
Nice win!
There were certainly plenty of highs, and lows, but I thought generally speaking the prices on the Memorabilia were relatively soft. |
Thanks Joe! I would have to agree.
|
I collect T206 player game used bats. A simple Wildfire Schulte was at $7200 last time I looked! I dropped out at $2200. That is utterly absurd. It is a $500 bat, tops. Some crazy prices.

Jos Hall....(woops, not memorabilia...sorry)
re-posted in card thread.... |

Completely agree with Joe... however there were a few exceptions. This example being perhaps the most notable. $48K might be a record price for a pennant... http://bid.robertedwardauctions.com/...e?itemid=45133 I was happy to score this 19th Century Figural Batsman at a much more reasonable price! |
Congrats Mark! When I saw that item when the auction opened I thought you may go for it.
|
Must be awesome. I would kill to make what someone paid for that pennant:rolleyes: that said, our hobby is made great by incredible pieces of history being discovered and offered
|
i thought pennant prices across the board were strong. that seems to be an area of the hobby that has sprung back in a big way (at least prewar examples or ones that picture a specific player)

The price on that Boston pennant is crazy. I'd hate to have to try to recoup money a few years from now on that one.
|
I thought the photo prices were crazy!!

Gary and Mark, awesome pick ups! I thought that prices on the 19th century memorabilia side were very strong in general with a few exceptions. I had a strong bid on one of the lithographs but went beyond my budget at some point last night.

Three pick ups

I was thrilled to add two baseball card advertising pieces and the pennant was a cherry to top it off as the condition was too good to pass up
Gary, I was the first bidder on the polka music sheet and up until the last hour before extended bidding there was only two people bidding on it and I thought I had a really good shot at it. It is a fantastic piece and congrats. Mark, great add as always. |
Anybody know who won?
Anybody know who won lot number 1760? The Excelsior cabinet photo?
If so, please contact me at tlwise12@aol.com Thanks Travis |
I was hoping to pick up the '45 KC Monarchs photo w/Jackie but not to be. Price was very strong IMHO.

I was able to pick up the c1910 Springfield Blue Labels Team Cabinet w/ Rabbit Maranville.
Here's a question though, why is Rabbit wearing a fielder's glove in his right hand???? ... |

Yes, of course, the 5 figures seems more appropriate to a minor Hall of Famer. Or am I way off about the market?
All it takes are 2-3 guys bidding against each other. I mean I can possibly see $1000, maybe $1500 if a couple of guys are going at it. Absolutely no more than that. I dropped out at $2200 and that was insane itself. I probably have 25-30 bats. Some (Dolly Stark and Roy Brashear) I got at auction for $100-$150 3 years ago. But $13,200 for an average player is absurd. |

Barn

Very rare shot of Ruth and Gehrig Barnstorming.Type 1 Images of just the two of them are damn near impossible...no coaches, no agents, no randoms.. no F N chickens etc. If anyone has shots of only these two barnstorming in uniform..I'm a buyer! Happy to add it. :)

Wildfire? Average?

He was a lifetime .270 hitter who hit OVER .300 once in his life (.301). Had over 70 RBI's once in his life. Had over 160 hits twice in his life. Fairly average numbers I think. Certainly not worthy of a $13,200 bat. hahahahha :D:D
|
Great to see strong prices !
Completely agree!! But I think it's a fluke; just 2 people with deep pockets fighting over it. |

I think that the features of this Wildfire bat, along with Cub mania, make it a special bat for a number of people.
Fair enough. I wish some of these people were interested in my $100 Dolly Stark bat hahaha. |

Kevin, fantastic pick-up and I thought you got it at a great price. Congrats
|
Monarchs Photo
Kevin: I don't think you overpaid. The combination of Paige and Robinson is iconic. Vintage Monarchs memorabilia is nearly impossible to find, even hear in KC. Great pickup!

Guys, thanks for all of the comments on my photo pickup. That is the beauty about collecting photos - their value is very subjective. What is worth $5K to me may be worth either $1K or $10K to a fellow collector and vice-versa. I know that I have been able to pick up photos in auction for 50% of what I was willing to pay and other photos that I really wanted have gone for 5X what I was expecting. They are a very emotional collectible and what appeals to each of us is usually very personal.
