Porpoise? I think that's a Mahi Mahi. Always wondered why they chose that graphic instead of the traditional "dolphin". But, I love that pennant. I have a couple of the original version sans AFC Championship reference. Never saw this version but would love to find one.

For Mike...I really enjoy your book. Was looking for a long time for a pennant price guide and was happy to find yours. I think the football portion could be enhanced and I don't necessarily agree with the the value/rarity designations in some cases...but I get how this would be an evolving encyclopedia, particularly for football as I'm guessing there are fewer collectors thus fewer pennants floating around. I've learned it's very hard to research pennants, especially the older ones...at least for the average collector. I also believe this book is the first of it's kind and should be built upon over time. If you ever decide to do a 3rd edition, please let me know. I have quite a few football pennants not in your book.

I mean this as a compliment...I keep your book on the back of my toilet and I reference it once a day...at least (Haha). Seriously...I'm always flipping through it. I also carry it around with me in my back pack whenever I'm away from home as I'm always looking for pennants and want your book handy.

Anyway...Thanks!

Rob

Thanks. I agree the football section could be quite a bit bigger and prices have dropped a lot from 4 or 5 years ago with the common ones. At this time I can't image doing another version though.

I would have posted this much earlier but it took awhile for to find this in my piles of Pirate crap. Nonetheless, this is a 1971 World Series Champion Pirates pennant. I would assume it would have been issued in late in 1971 or 1972. Based on the use of the same font on the word Pittsburgh and the vintage Pirate image it was likely produced by the same company as your Steeler pennants during a similar time frame. I hope this helps.

Anyone have a 1943 "Steagles" or 1944 "Card-Pitts" pennant?

Default OK...So now...

I'm questioning the origins of this pennant. Thinking this might be early 70's as well? I thought early 60's when I bought it. Either way, I haven't seen many of this one.

I say early 60s....AFL took a lot of their early designs from the older NFL pennants. I would think this design would be gone by early 70s
.....still not as nice as that Browns pennant you have :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

First of all, this is a rare Jets pennant and I'm sure a lot of people would need this for their collection. With that being said, oftentimes these styles were used for several teams hence the same design as the Steelers. Very generic and easy to change to whatever game or notations needed for that time. Oftentimes these designs were used for many years and "pulled out" when needed. Some sold better than others and some are very rare. Bottom line, nice pennant.

Ps: same thing goes for baseball and oftentimes sold outside the stadium for many years

Interesting topic...

Here is what I believe to be the original version of that particular Pirates Pennant. The felt is very soft, and the Pirate is color-shaded. Very rare version of an otherwise somewhat common pennant. This is actually the only color-shaded version I've seen....
