That would be a sign that we were in a period of hyper-inflation to me.

The "hobby" didn't get to choose the "face" of the hobby.

The fact that people who are not involved in the hobby know about the Wagner is what makes it the "face of the hobby"

Laughing out loud. And, if you win that bet, then the world has found it's next idiot.

Default 10 1952 mantle

I think it could hit a million no way on 3. Especially Marshall's example which seems to be the best of the three psa 10s.

There are three PSA 10 mantles? Where'd the other 2 come from? I remember reading, around 12 years ago, that there was only 1. It sold for around 250k back then.

As it's the 21st century, I think the face of the hobby should be a card of a woman or racial minority. Or perhaps someone not associated with baseball.

Agreed, it might as well be BHO. A minority illegal alien woman who has nothing to do with baseball. (that's a sarcastic smiley just for the record)

There have been 3 PSA 10 Wagners for at least a decade and no new ones in at least that long. I have heard of private offers of north of 2.0m. WOuld be surprised if one sold for less than that.

You mean Mantles? and my guess is about 1.5m-2m if one of those 10s sold at auction. Pure guess though...

That seems right on value... I was referring to price just to reference what I was reading.

Is there any provenance on those Mantles? Are they from Al Rosen's find?

It absolutely matters.

The automated cutting leads to off-center and miscut cards. The Wagner in question never had the opportunity to be either because it was cut in a different way, allegedly twice.

To add to that, all the "factory completed" cards had a 70-80 year head start on wear.

Is it even a card if it didn't leave the factory as such? "The Zen philosopher Basho once wrote 'a flute without holes is not a flute and a donut with no hole is a danish.' He was a funny guy." Ty Webb

You can do whatever you want to to a card, as long as you disclose the alteration at sale.

If you think there's nothing wrong with cutting a card from a sheet 50 years later, that is fine. But you have to disclose the modern cut at sale.
