I started at 17 too. This was around 2005. I took a break in college just to enjoy "young people" things but have collected regularly since. My advice to you is to stay with collecting, no matter what anyone else says. Your peers will think you are crazy, but don't let them change your view of the hobby. You're lucky to start early - by them time you reach the age of some of the old timers here, your collection will be amazing.
