Well I know I am new here but I am a long time member over on BlowoutCards.com under the name jewcer2k5.
I do a lot of buying and selling of prospects but decided that I wanted to start a real PC (outside of a few prospect ones that I have). I decided to do PSA 10 cards of my birth year of 1983. Im looking to get all of them and will pay fair prices. If you have any let me know and I have paypal locked and loaded to buy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by jtradingcards; 12-17-2014 at 12:24 PM. |

Thanks man, was hoping there would be a little more activity on these forums for older (even if not vintage/pre-war) cards.

Do such cards exist? Seems like that'll be quite a challenge. What's the budget to complete the set? $5k? 10k? I have no idea what this would cost to get the cards on the secondary market, or produce them yourself by buying raw and submitting. If you do the latter, you could probably complete an '83 set in 9/Mint, too ![]() I thought about doing this for '87 Topps, the year I really got into it. What do you think that would cost, if you don't mind my asking? To more traction on the post-80 board! |

Love the idea...though about it myself for a bit as it is one of my favorite modern sets, but such a tall task! 4sharpcorners.com always has plenty to buy...maybe you can negotiate a bit if buying in bulk. Good luck!

Would be nice to keep the cost down on what I can keep it down on. I know that I will HAVE to get some graded at some point to try and finish this thing off but wanna get as far as I can before that. Really in no rush, just wanna enjoy it. Probably gonna try and pick up the big boys sooner rather than later.

I am a big fan of the 1983. I think it's one of Topps' nicest sets ever. Good luck!

I think I have about 10K raw cards from this set. If you have a lot of time, why not buy them from me and look for 10s yourself? :-) If you're interested, please PM me. :-)

In 30 years from now, I guarantee you the mutual fund will be worth several times what a PSA 10 1983 Topps set is worth. Again, I’m no one to tell other people how or what to collect, but I think in 30 years from now you would be more happy with $100K (or more) sitting in a mutual fund with a nice raw ’83 set than you would be with just a PSA 10 ’83 set. Good luck! |

If you think that 9900 in a "mutual fund" will guarantee that I will have $100k in 30 years you don't know the stock market too well. This is a personal project because I think it will be awesome to have and to pass down to my kids (when I have them). When I do have them I will put together the full topps series 1,2,update sets in psa 10 for them as well and it will be something cool to have. If $10,000 made a huge life difference to me then I totally would not be spending it on baseball cards. Sorry if that sounded snotty it's just the truth.

![]() You plan to give updates about your project anywhere? Might make for a cool Facebook page, blog series, or Net54 thread. I'd certainly be interested to see how you would go about this in case I ever decide to put 100% of my fun budget towards an '87 TOpps set. Really curious to learn of your sources and learn from your experiences if you don't mind sharing. And +1 for sticking around Net54 |

Some great input on here so far.
Here are some glaring problems as I see it: #1 80,000 cards graded so far and ZERO PSA 10s of #692 Walling. #2 There are 5 cards with only 1 PSA 10. #3 There are more than 10 folks building a PSA 10 set on the registry. #4 These numbers add up to a VERY frustrating and at this point IMPOSSIBLE venture. #5 There are also a bunch of cards with a very low PSA 10 count. #6 A lot of the current (low count) PSA 10s are in registry sets already. #7 See #1 thru #6 above. Good luck either way. peace, mike |

Find someone that will guarantee me 8% per year on a consistent basis and I'll show you a thief. Sure that may be the average but when it gets cut in half a few times that won't matter. Like I said, if the $10,000 that I think this would cost me was life changing I wouldn't do it. Oh and as for the big ones..Those aren't PSA 10, are they?

You have the right attitude for this venture so good luck. This set is special to me as it was right during my HS years and Boggs was my favorite Red Sox player so this set is a beauty as far as I'm concerned.

Again, I think it's an awesome project. I wouldn't worry about the $. No one is going to pull up in front of your house and ask for $10,000…it'll probably be 10-20-100 chunks most of the time. I built a T206 set which i am reasonably sure set me back every bit as much and it was a marvelous journey. Unlike my lowish-grade set, of which I suspect more that 300 exist, I am pretty sure you'll be the only guy with a 1983 set like that.

There are 45 sets on the PSA registry. One guy has all but like 4 cards as PSA 10 and then others go down. I am number 31 so far with my 20.

without psa grading 1983 cards....the value plummets as less people are interested in paying any money for these cards or competing for low pop cards......everyone would just have their 'mint' sets for 100 bucks..now theres something to shoot for with psa 10s..and still much cheaper than vintage collecting....psa is great for the hobby ...not sure why all the haters out there....
not sure why we are talking about investing in cards....we all know we will lose money in set collecting for the most part...its a hobby people...hobbys cost money and with a little money spread over the years for a psa 10 set, sounds like a fun pursuit....he not paying 10k all at once anyway.. It's been a little over a year since the last post. How's the progress going?
I just saw a 9 different 1983 Topps PSA 10's in the week's JVSC auction and it reminded me of this thread. |
