Default Scratched Case Rejection

This is probably not a first, but it is a first for me, and pretty shocking. As a seller, I had a consignment with GM Cards returned to me. The reason? It first went from the eBay sale to the Vault, where PSA summarily rejected for . . . get this . . . scratches on the case!

Now if the scratches were particularly bad, I could probably understand. But I cannot see even one definitive scratch on the holder whatsoever. And of course I have received vintage cards from the eBay Vault with plenty of scratches, which were never an issue before. But somehow now is it. I guess people will complain about anything to get their money back these days, and so thus PSA has evidently now been alerted to be on the lookout for scratched cases.

Anyway, as a result, I am now making this card available on the BST for less than it sold at auction on eBay very recently. It is a T201 Johnson/Street SGC 3.5 card.

Has anybody else had this experience yet?

What a crazy reason for a denial. Maybe AI did it?

No, I haven't had that happen but maybe others have...

It's definitely a thing.

As part of the authenticity guarantee program, PSA checks out the slabs to make sure that they haven't been tampered with. The general concept it solid, to make sure that some goons aren't running around and cracking and re-sealing lesser cards into slabs, or just manufacturing their own slabs.

Naturally, they took it way too far, and are fussing over scratches in the slabs, and using that as a reason to reject cards. There does appear to be one way around it, which is to note in the description (which few people read anyway) that the slab has some scratches.

Yeah, who would have thunk it...right? Just be thorough in the description if things can't be seen in the images. Easy.

Right right.

I'm too lazy to do it, but I keep meaning to edit all of my eBay listings to add a note that there are scratches on the slab, just to get in front of this issue before it bites me.

I just had the eBay authentication program reach out to me about some minor damage to the slab of a purchase I had made that wasn't noted in the description. They gave me the option to have it sent back and refunded or to proceed. They actually shared some good photos of the damage that enabled me to make an informed decision to continue with the order. I think that's a good service overall, but probably leaves some room for buyers to back out of deals unnecessarily as well.
