Default 1914 Cracker Jack Walter Johnson PSA 3 - Help Please!

Hello Fellow Collectors!

I have a 1914 Cracker Jack Walter Johnson and am looking for pricing advice since I don't really deal in 14's and can only find a couple similar sales outside of the grade I have, which is PSA 3.

It's really well centered and has strong color in my opinion. Also some great caramel staining in unobtrusive locations which I really like. Not too heavy into grading but from PSA grading descriptions I feel like this could be a good candidate for asking for a bump? Who knows, right?!

Other than that I wasn't sure what a fair asking price would be based on the market? I know 14's have become pretty scarce. And yes, I know if I offer for sale here that asking my potential buyers is perhaps a conflict of interest of sorts .

I don't really want to talk to auction houses either since I don't want to go that route and from my experience, they tend to build up the hype and over estimate items most of the time when discussing consignment.

Any help is appreciated! Feel free to message me directly as well if you're more comfortable with that. I look forward to the feedback!

Steve

You aren't seeing the images? I am in a browser and they seem to be displaying just fine! Let me try and troubleshoot I guess. They are in my photo album in my profile page perhaps I copied it incorrectly.

I’ll play. I’d place a value on the card of $17K.

And as Leon says, I don’t think it bumps with the staining either (which I love by the way)

great centering for the card/issue...but as stated the stains detract. appears graded correctly and should sell well for its grade.

Here's a 3.5 that sold in Heritage for $15,600 in December 2024.

Not sure about yours upgrading past a 3, but it is a fantastic card.

I'd put the value in the $15K +/- range, with a highly desirable card like that you never know though.

I'd guess you'd get over $15k based on current comps. I haven't seen many 14 Johnson's with nice centering like yours. I think you'd get a premium. Would recommend coming up with a price that would make you happy and list here on Net54. Or you could list on ebay with BIN or starting auction price of your ask and see if it goes higher (you'll need to factor in ebay's fees). Lastly you could always give it to one of the trusted auction houses like Love of the Game or REA. I've attached the latests comps on VCP. GLWS!

Thank you for taking the time to share these! The 2/2021 example stood out as visually similar with less staining. Not many sales of centered examples it seems

Can you display the full pic with the PSA cert #?
PSA has 10 graded PSA 3s of Johnson
The highest price I have for a PSA 3 is $25K and that was in the Summer of 2020
When you post it for sale on the BST I'm sure you will get some offers on it
$14k to $18k is not unrealistic

Great centering and sharp corners for a "3". But I am doubtful whether it would bump to a 3.5. Traditionally PSA is pretty forgiving of the caramel staining, but often times they are not. They are inconsistent, and seem to be far less lenient in recent times.

That said, 15.5K - $16.5K would be my guess for price realized. Best of luck!

Nothing against BST, but a card like that I would prob consign to an auction house. Who cares what their hype is. You want to get the card in front of as many big spenders’ eyeballs as possible. You want two guys trying to kill each other for the card. That’s what it’s all about. Worst case scenario it sells at an AH for the kind of price people are taking about. Ask for some of the buyers commission back too. In this market it’s very hard to assess numbers.

Plenty of 10k plus sales on BST. My first one was over 50k.
I would rather try here first but I'm biased

At least $15k at auction I would think, maybe a slight discount here, it's not going to bump, Amazing card!

One can hope. I know I have certainly tried to outbid others to get my way!
