Default FT: Errors & Variations-a-palooza!!!! (super scan heavy) Updated!!!!

***New and Consolidated!!!***

I love vintage error and variation cards and I'm constantly searching these suckers out. Since I still have many major cards needed to complete and/or upgrade my sets, I'm offering up these guys in trade for hits off of my need list and other things. Some of these cards are relatively easy to come by, but then there are quite a few that are incredibly tough to find. I've included scans of both the fronts and backs (and I've made sure the back scan placements correspond with the front scans), because we E & V collectors know that a wide variety of these cards are all about the backs. There are a ton of scans here, so be sure to take your time and scroll down to see everything. I'll keep adding all sorts of cards to the thread as I get them.

I have also added my opinion as to the relative toughness of finding each of the variation cards (the error cards, though, due to their nature, are not given this type of an assessment). This is based on factors such as general availability, pricing and my experience. I've used "Tough" as the default setting, while other hard-to-find cards have more colorful adjectives added. These terms, of course, do not correspond to any established scale of measurement. Ha ha!!

If you are interested in trading, take a look at all of the scans and LMK what you have to offer.

• I usually prefer to trade cards of similar value for each other, not a bunch of commons for an expensive card.

• Please don't ask me to assign monetary 'values' to any of these cards. Anyone collecting these sorts of things knows in general what they are 'worth.' For me it just boils down to whether or not the card(s) you're offering make me want to part with any of these guys, know what I mean? I want to receive the most I can get in return and you want to get them as cheaply as possible. That's the reality of trading, and the compromise lies somewhere in the middle.

• My need list (and a list of other things I'm interested in) is found below the scans. Sorry, I'm not looking to sell any of these cards at the moment, just looking to trade.

• Many of these guys are in pretty nice shape, but they definitely run the gamut of conditions. Some are relatively weak, but most I would say conservatively fall into the ex/ex+ range.

• If you have any questions, LMK.

And away we go…there's a ton of great stuff here!!!

Okay, I had to switch most/all of the stuff in my bucket over to a new account at flickr, so I figured it was easier to start this thread anew by consolidating all of the updates I have posted over the months and years. Now, everything I have (so far) is shown in the posts at the start of the thread, making viewing easy. All scans have been updated…and traders are welcome!!

Bump. It's time to start trading, because look at how much some sellers are asking for the same types of cards I have available in this thread:

Time for a late year bump.

These are all cards I recently sent into PSA through Bobby's group submission. To say I'm unhappy with many of the grades (Especially the 1969 #567 Pirates Rookies with no black outline on title. There are no creases or other problems and the 'faded' front is how it was printed. I have another one that looks exactly like it. It's o/c, but that's it. Grrr...WTF??!!!) is the understatement of the century, but it is what it is.

Newest additions…
1969 Topps 567 Pirates Rookies - No Black Outline On Title. Very Tough.
1962 Topps 182 Bob Nieman - Green Tint. Extremely Tough.
1962 Topps 119 Danny Murphy - Green Tint. Extremely Tough.
1962 Topps 119 Danny Murphy - Green Tint. Extremely Tough.

1966 Topps 104 Alex Johnson - No Trade Statement. Stupid Tough.
1967 Topps 86 Mike Mccormick - No Trade Statement. Stupid Tough.
1969 Topps 491 Twins Rookies - White Letter. Stupid Tough.

Technical note: some of the newly graded cards shown here may be/are cards that are pictured in the 'raw' card scans. I didn't go through all of the old scans and eliminate the cards that were sent to PSA. So if you're interested in a particular ungraded card, I'll just have to make sure it is not now residing in a slab.

Newest additions…
1967 Topps 128 Ed Spiezio - Incomplete Name On Front. Off The Charts Ridiculously Tough.
1969 Topps 99 Twins Rookies - With Loop. Extremely Tough.

Since it is the most frequently asked question, I very hesitantly say that I may possibly be open to selling some of the cards in this thread. Shoot me a PM and we can talk.

Bump. The latest round of cool stuff.

Newest additions…
1962 Topps 127 Pride Of The A’s - Green Tint. Extremely Tough.
1962 Topps 138 Babe Ruth Special - Green Tint. Extremely Tough.

And a bunch of error cards…
1968 Topps 475 Joe Niekro - Oddly Discolored Hat.
1970 Topps 464 Johnny Bench AS - Wild Color Shifts.
1972 Topps 309 Roberto Clemente - Wildly Miscut HOF’er.
1973 Topps 305 Willie Mays IA - Wildly Miscut HOF’er.

Notes: The Babe card isn't badly o/c at all and yes, the Niekro card is printed that way. It is not sun fading or the like.

Time for an enthusiastic bump.

These are all cards I recently got back from PSA through Bobby's group submission.

Newest additions…
1960 Topps 293 Gene Conley - Shadow Protruding Into White Border. Very Tough.
1961 Topps 7 White Sox Team - Logo Is All White (No Yellow). Stupid Tough.
1966 Topps 43 Don Landrum - Button On Pants Partially Airbrushed. Stupid Tough.
1966 Topps 303 Indians Team - No Bullet (Dot) On Front. Stupid Tough.

1965 Topps 367 Leon Wagner - Wavy Blue Border. Stupid Tough.
1967 Topps 374 Mel Queen - Incomplete Line Under Stats. Stupid Tough.

1967 Topps 128 Ed Spiezio - Incomplete Name On Front. Off The Charts Ridiculously Tough.
1967 Topps 128 Ed Spiezio - Incomplete Name On Front. Off The Charts Ridiculously Tough.
1967 Topps 128 Ed Spiezio - Incomplete Name On Front. Off The Charts Ridiculously Tough.
1969 Topps 567 Pirates Rookies - No Black Outline On Title. Very Tough.

Technical note: almost all of the newly graded cards shown here are cards that were originally pictured as 'raw' cards in this thread. I didn't go through all of the old scans and eliminate the cards that were sent to PSA, because it would just take too much time photoshopping and reloading the files, editing the specific posts in the thread and so on. So if you're interested in a particular ungraded card, I'll just have to make sure it is not now residing in a slab.

Errors & Variations: Miscuts Edition.

The two pairs of cards are matching miscuts. These were literally next to each other on the sheets when they were cut and put into packs way back when. Oh yeah, and there is also a very cool Mickey Mantle/Eddie Mathews combination platter.

Newest additions…
1971 Topps 186 Bob Spence - Matching Front Miscut
1971 Topps 139 Paul Casanova - Matching Front Miscut
1979 Topps 55 Willie Stargell - Matching Back Miscut HOF’er.
1979 Topps 182 Tim Johnson - Matching Back Miscut
1967 Topps 150 Mickey Mantle - Wildly Miscut HOF’er.

Long time, no bump.

The Bolin is pretty cool, because whereas other 'White Streak Between Name' cards feature one definitive streak, this one not only has a lighter version of said streak, but also like a gallon of white ink spilled across his name. Pretty cool!!! If I was selling it on ebay, I would have to suggest "1 of 1????"
(It's also the same card I pictured earlier in this thread before it was graded.)

Newest additions…
1962 Topps 137 Babe And Mgr. Huggins - Green Tint. Extremely Tough.
1962 Topps 187 Gene Conley - Green Tint. Tough.
1967 Topps 86 Mike Mccormick - No Trade Statement. Stupid Tough.
1967 Topps 252 Bob Bolin - White Streak Between Name. Off The Charts Ridiculously Tough.

Default Bump

Thought I'd bump this for all who'd want to see the need list. All I'd have off it that could possibly work would be a '71 Wilhelm - not sure it "makes the grade". (I've heard that set is notoriously hard to grade). If it's needed still I'll post a scan.

1974 Topps 387 Rich Morales - Washington. Very Tough.

Time for a bump.

Most of these cards were 'recently' sent into PSA through the group submission, so they aren't exactly new, but here they are...

Newest additions…
1962 Topps 180 Bob Allison - Green Tint. Tough.
1966 Topps 303 Indians Team - No Bullet (Dot) On Front. Stupid Tough.
1966 Topps 432 Bob Heffner - Purple Tree With ‘Lens Flare.’ Stupid Tough.
1967 Topps 128 Ed Spiezio - Incomplete Name On Front. Off The Charts Ridiculously Tough.

1969 Topps 491 Twins Rookies - White Letter. Stupid Tough.
1972 O-Pee-Chee Hockey 334 Checklist - Names On Back Listed Correctly. Stupid Tough.
1972 Topps 534 Jim Hickman - Green ‘Missing’ From “Cubs.” Stupid Tough.
1973 Topps 280 Al Kaline - Bandage/Band Aid On His Forehead. Stupid Tough.

Technical note: some of the newly graded cards shown here may be/are cards that are pictured earlier in the thread as ungraded examples. I didn't go through all of the old scans and eliminate every card that was sent to PSA (or traded away). So if you're interested in a particular ungraded card, I'll just have to make sure it is not now residing in a slab.

A quartet of new additions…
1962 Topps 117 Gary Geiger - Green Tint. Extremely Tough (multiply the toughness by 100 if you consider how hard it is to find this card NOT thin side to side...and I don't wanna be that guy, but it is very under-graded).
1965 Topps 367 Leon Wagner - Wavy Blue Border. Stupid Tough.
1968 Topps 68 Ron Willis - Milton Bradley. (Not too badly OC.) Extremely Tough.
1973 Topps 257 Yogi Berra - Light Background With A Piece Of Yost’s Hat Brim Protruding. (Hardest of the Berra variations to find.) Extremely Tough.
