Every few months I start thread under this title and invite thoughts. As usual have to add: what's hot is NOT necessarily what you own!
Just to kick off I will suggest that CJ 14s remain but high-graded CJ 15s have late joined them. m116s getting even colder. Seems to have been surge in tougher t206s commons if PSA 5-6-7. Some high-grade caramels went well below expectations at recent HA auction. The Babe goodeys continue to climb... Your views? And what do you think will rebound or take off? |

33 Goudey Gehrigs appear to be following the Babe on an upward trend.

Caramels are staying lukewarm except for any I want.

Major 50s rookie cards like Mantle, Aaron and Clemente, as well as the 52T Mantle, have surged tremendously over the past year or so.

Seems the secondary EPDG sales are strong after the Saco run in Q1. Lots of them on the Ebay market and they are still getting some good premiums.
Was hoping that I would be able to pick up some good "regret" sales but alas, the pricing has been consistent. |

I guess I'd add Ramly commons down and for a awhile now Old Judge commons (just too many of them and this is permanent?). U.S. Caramels seem strong.

I am having a hard time selling ungraded Goudeys (other than Ruth and Gehrig) also ungraded commons from the 1960's--collectors are not putting sets together like the old days---1952 Topps Highs are selling well.

Centered Mantles of any year. When 90+ of every hundred on eBay are so poorly centered, the competition for a well-framed example is fierce.
Any Ruth, Gehrig, Shoeless Joe. No surprises there I suppose! 54 Aaron, 55 Clemente, 63 Rose, 68 Ryan. |

Football HOF rookies are white hot, setting records all the way from pre-war to the 1980's in high grade. Never seen anything like it in football before.

It has been mentioned in this thread that 1930's cards aside from Ruth and Gehrig as well as the Playball issues are ice cold. I hope it stays like that for a while so I can add more of those cards to my collection. That is how I like to collect.

I "sold in the cold" with a significant (for me) consignment of non-T206 prewar HOFers in the fall 2014 REA auction. I lost some $$$ (in the larger scheme of things no big deal). Definitely a learning experience. Scarcity seems to have been a necessary, but not sufficient, condition for a decent hammer price. For example, Burkett Koester's SGC 40 did well. But Faber Holsum Type 1 PSA 5 didn't.
I kept my medium grade (4, 5) Ruth, Gehrig and Wagner -- which is in synch with what has been said here. There is a definite price split going on. Cards of players whose fame transcends era (Ruth, Gehrig, Cy Young) are incresingly coveted, whereas cards of players who whose fame is trapped in an era are languishing -- even if they are HOFers. Additionally, as card knowledge increases, there is a slow but steady price divergence between truly scarcer cards -- which are rising -- and the more mundane -- which are falling. Finally, heavily collected sets, T206 comes to mind ![]() Just my opinion. Edited to add: So I guess what I am saying is you should pony-up if a T206 Young (Glove Shows) Brown Lenox comes to auction. How are Obaks doing--the different years (1909 etc.)?
Seems the "card" cards--Fan Craze, Polo Grounds, National Game, Tom Barker--need to be 9s or 10s to retain value....true? |

Some have some have not. I picked up a Larry Doyle SGC 60 for $130 and a Lake SGC 60 went for 170-180 in the same auction.

Some of the rare backs with key players seem to still bring some money. We need to find a way to tie them to T206.
