Hi! Currently, I collect the following:
1) Anything Pre-1950 Pro basketball----autographs, programs, tickets, schedules, photos, broadsides, postcards, etc. (the older the better)
2) Anything Pre-1930 Pacific Coast League baseball of the Vernon Tigers, Venice Tigers, or Los Angeles Angels (no cards)
3) Anything pre-1902 California League baseball----no cards.
4) Koufax wins tickets and programs

Bob, are you a hit-and-run thread starter?

I think I am genetically addicted to collecting. Since I was a small child, I always collected EVERYTHING. You name it, it was piling up in my closet.

Currently I collect antique pool cues and stuff related to Willie Hoppe, anything related to Edward Curtis, sports cabinet photos, stuff related to Jack Johnson, Dallas Cowboys stuff, Astros stuff, pre-wwii baseball photos, baseball RPPC's, arrowheads, Indian Head cents, handwritten HOF'er letters, pre-wwi baseball equipment, significant baseballs, baseball publications, photos and other stuff related to various celebrities who I am interested in (not in a stalking way), etc., etc., etc. The only thing I have going that saves me, is I really like getting checks in the mail.

Well it's not baseball but there doesn't appear to a Net54 for the Corrida. I spent a couple of years in boarding school in Madrid as a teen. I am an animal lover so I can't explain my attraction to bull fighting but I was drawn to it in a big way. I spent hours at the ring and met some fascinating people. I came across this 1962 Mexican one sheet featuring Manuel Benitez aka El Cordobes and had to have it. The title APRENDIENDO A MORIR translates as learning to die. Benitez was to Spain what Mantle was to the USA in the 1960s. I saw him late in his career and he was still mesmerizing. His biography is titled Or I'll Dress You In Mourning is a great read. Original Pancho Villa photos and El Cordobes items are my only collecting venture outside of baseball. Thanks for indulging me.

Facinating!...I just read Benitez's wiki...Actually in offbeat sports mountaineering is another sport I find facinating...

My Georgia Tech collection has a run of Blueprint Yearbooks I'm working on; I have over 80 different out of the 115 that have been created. Plus I've got duplicates of some of the rare ones (1920: Bobby Jones, 1953: Marilyn Monroe Look Magazine shoot, Football NC Year) in case anyone wants to trade.

I am working on signatures from the Top50 Georgia Tech historical figures, including head football coaches (Dodd, Heisman, Gen Leonard Wood), players (Joe Guyon, Joe Hamilton), Astronauts (none yet), deans, authors, etc.

I also have approximately 70 different GT postcards ranging from 1905 to present day. I curate the "Georgia Tech Antique Collectors" Facebook page and post a lot of images there, as well as eBay items that I want the audience of 250+ to see.

I collect Earl Christy college football cheerleader postcards (1905-1910).

Lots and lots of paper stuff. Some photographs. Artwork that I bought on cruise ships.

He had an amazing life. He almost seems like a Hemingway creation only more interesting. I will never forget watching him on his knees with the muleta behind him as the bull charged like this photo. I don't know that I could watch bullfighting at this point in life but I know the 16 year old version of me was absolutely addicted because of Benitez.

As for mountaineering, I've read a couple of books on Mallory and Irvine's Everest climbs which were great reads.

Goodnight, Fred, that's an impressive Hartland Collection! Particularly intriguing for me are the Green Box "Dallas" Hartlands. True Story:
Back in the spring of 1990, I visited my local card shop (Dallas), and the owner showed me a new circular for a brand new Hartland Whitey Ford figure. Well, I knew I had to order it, and I also copied down the Dallas address of Hartland, which at the time, was in an industrial section not far from 635 (LBJ), so I drove over there during a lunch break and saw the Hartland "plant." It was a small, brick building (no larger than a 2-3 bedroom home) with a small front office and a larger assembly room. There were 3 ladies in the room hand painting the new Whitey Ford figures. They showed me around for about 5 minutes and that was that. I later ordered the Lou Gehrig and Dizzy Dean figures, and put in an order for the Ty Cobb and Bob Feller Figures. I never got the Feller or Cobb figures, as that was at the time the owner, Bill Alley, went missing, so my order was filled by my choice of Anniversary figures (Ted Williams and Warren Spahn). I picked up the unassembled/unpainted Cy Young and Honus Wagner "Missouri" figures along with their unassembled boxes at some point. I later sold all my Hartland collection.

Sorry, back to topic. What do I collect besides baseball cards? Southwest Conference memorabilia (much of my collection is in the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in Waco, Texas), vintage and new Marx 12" figures, vintage 3 Investigators books, San Diego Padres game used/issued equipment, autograph collecting (mostly Planet of the Apes, Andy Griffith Show, Battlestar Galactica), and classic Battlestar Galactica stuff…. Whew….
