Default How Much Gold do you have??

So, Im tired of seeing the "what's your monster number" threads,
LMAO sry guys. ( im just joking )

Id love to see what some of you have as far as the T205, GOLD Border set.

Its the 1st and only set I have ever tried to attain, I began about a year ago and would love to see how far along or if some of you have the complete set.

I just did a full inventory of what I have, as I did loose count, But here's what I have so far:

73 cards Total

All the Minor Leaguers
10 HOF
6 Short Prints
a few printing errors

Backs:

Piedmont Blue 25 – 18
Polar Bear – 14
Sweet Caporal Red – 5
Sweet Caporal Black 26 –5
Sweet Caporal Black 42 – 4

Hassan green 30 – 4
Peidmont Blue 42 – 4

Below are a few of my Favorites!

I started this set a little over a year ago as well. Working on a low grade set...1's, 2's, 3's. The T205's have always appealed to me more than the T206's for some reason. Plus it's a fun and relatively affordable prewar set to work on.

Thus far I have 48 cards:

6 HOFers (best would be Johnson)
10 SP's

One cycle back for sure, not sure on the breakdown of others off hand.

Steve,

From all us T205 lovers, GREAT THREAD!

103 bars of lovely gold. Not sure of the breakdown, but your post is a good prompt for me to figure it out. Thanks!

Hey Steve...I, too, am a big fan of the T205's and started working on this set in the past year or two. So far I have 30 cards in either VG or VG/EX...most are SGC slabbed (the Gold borders look fantastic against the black background) though I grab PSA examples when they are priced right.

The break down is as follows:

Hall of Famers: 8 (Brown, Clarke, Jennings, Marquard, Mathewson, Speaker, Wallace & Wheat)

Backs:

Piedmont Blue 25 – 10
Polar Bear – 4
Sweet Caporal Red –
Sweet Caporal Black 26 –
Sweet Caporal Black 42 – 6
Hassan Green 649 – 3
Honest Long Cut – 4
Sovereign - 1
Cycle - 1
Hassan Green 30 –
Peidmont Blue 42 –
American Beauty Black –
American Beauty Green – 1
Broadleaf Black –
Broadleaf Green –
Hindu –
Drum –
Blank -

And my favorites:

The McElveen is a particular favorite because this was the first vintage card I ever owned. I remember having this card back in the mid-1980s but somehow it got lost along the way...I picked up a new one a couple years ago and that got me started on the set.

T@yl0r, Mark and anyone else who's interested.

I see you guys said your not sure of the backs u have. I know its hard to keep track, I have a pretty cool chart that I created, with each card, back info, grade, etc.

I can send you guys a blank one if you like to fill in with what you have its a great way to keep track.

If anyone wants one just email me, with T205 Chart in the subject line.

My number is 87 total
8 - Minor Leaguers
20 - HOF
12 - Short Prints
9 - versions

I also do not worry much about backs so I don't know the breakdown, except for that have at least 1 each of the more common backs and that 18/87 are Piedmont 42s which I do pick up from time to time.

It's nice to see everyone's progress on this set. I currently have around 120 different front/back combos with most being American Beauty, Piedmont 42, and some Sovereign's. A near complete collection of all front/back scans is almost done and will be uploaded to the t205resource.com website very soon. Keep checking the home page for all website updates made.

Every card, every back (including blank), and every card error except Collins with yellow elephant (never saw) and I don't have the Holy Grail Hobi no stats.

My favorite set.

I finished up a T205 set, of sorts, a couple years ago…my first vintage set. It is rough rough. Many of the cards are skins, but I have a full set of every different front which pleased me and dressed them up in such a way that they display nicely. I did a little website devoted to the subject at the time…you might also want to check out the "update set."

I have all of the Hall of Famers except the Wallace, no cap, two lines and the Walsh. I guess, after seeing this thread I have to add the Collins yellow elephant. I did not even know it existed.
I had never paid any attention to the backs before this thread but of the 28 cards I have (two are doubles), it is four Polar Bear, one Honest Long Cut, two Sovereign, four Hassan, one Sweet Caporal and the rest Piedmont.

I have some idea what the scarce backs for T-206 are. Is there a thread of what the scarce T-205 backs are?

I finished my first set about 6 or 7 years ago. It includes all cards and variations EXCEPT a Hoblitzell no stats. It is p-f-g range

I finished my second set, not as complete but a complete set of fronts a few years ago. This set is in the g-vg- range.

I own an example of every back type incl. blank.

I have a large Phillies collection of t205s as well.

I also have a 6 inch binder full of t205s. At last count (last year), it was sitting around 1500 cards incl. examples of single prints, HOFers, and rarer backs. It is probably approaching 1700. It is wonderfully satisfying and it looks very cool when you finish a t-card page in a binder with all the same card!

Yes, I am a hoarder of these cards. Unfortunately, my life got in the way and I have had to curtail my buying for the last few months.

Joshua

It's always tough posting after Joshua, but I'm about 90 different cards in or so, with a few duplicates. Most duplicates are SP's (2 Joss, 2 Walsh, 2 Collins open mouth) or because I ran across a tougher back (3 Hal Chase w/Hassan 30, Cycle, and American Beauty). Grades are all over the place from poor to SGC 60. Here's a quick back breakdown (I don't have all catalogued by back yet)

Piedmont 25 – 21
Polar Bear – 8
Sweet Caporal - 5
Hassan 649 – 8
Honest Long Cut – 10
Sovereign - 12
Cycle – 10
Hassan 30 – 10
Piedmont 42 – 6
American Beauty – 7

I got this pinky ring is that enough gold?

On a serious note I have been thinking about starting the T205 cards. Since joining this forum and discovering the beauty of the pre war cards I started the T210 & T206 sets. I still really like the T210's but the T206's are just too plain looking for me.

So if anyone has any low grade T205 beaters that are not trimmed past the borders I have close to 40 T206's for trade bait.

Looks like I have 39.
27 hofers
14 nygiant non-hofers.

The t205 Merkle was the first pre-war card I purchased back when I started collecting again in aught-9

I don't track the backs either.

Definitely one of my favorite sets. I completed it about two years ago and have been upgrading a few since then. There is so much mystery and so many new discoveries to be made about this set...even moreso than the T206s, I believe. I think that several of the most beautiful tobacco cards ever made are found in this set. Here are a few of my favorites.

I just started collecting "gold" last year and this is what I have,

0 Minor Leaguers
0 HOF
0 Short Prints
0 printing errors

Backs:

Piedmont Blue 25 – 0
Polar Bear – 0
Sweet Caporal Red – 0
Sweet Caporal Black 26 – 0
Sweet Caporal Black 42 – 0
Hassan Green – 649 – 0
Honest Long Cut – 9
Sovereign - 0
Cycle – 1
Hassan green 30 – 0
Peidmont Blue 42 – 0
American Beauty Black – 0
American Beauty Green – 0
Broadleaf Black – 0

Thanks,

I completed my set about ten years ago. It is still hanging on my wall. I can't remember the backs, probably commons. The cards are mostly very goods.

Love the Hobliz no stats Marc.

Joshua
wow 1700 that's awesome josh, I can deff say that when I first joined net54, reading all your posts about the t205's is what got me started collecting them. Also the fact they were so damn good lookin! lol

Evil, I have about 38-40% of the set. I think it is a gorgeous set. I have a number of the gold/green border edge cards which I thought were kind of neat.

I will finish it one day.

I'm slowly putting together a Pirates team set (seems pretty attainable since there is no Wagner). I only have 7 so far. I haven't really paid as much attention the the backs like I do for my T206 set. I only have Sweet Caps, Pieds, and Polar Bears included in my 7 so far. I also plan on picking up a few American and Minor League subjects so that I have all three designs represented in my collection.

hey Zack,

I have been looking for a green border, to add, I don't have any yet. Seems every time I find one its pretty beat up, and hard to tell if its gren or just really badly chipped, lol.

Hey Leon, your Hindu-WaJo would present itself much better if it were included in this WaJo lineup. So, how about putting yours in the upcoming B & L Auction?
Best,
Val

I started building my set over twenty years ago with the intention of getting every card in Excellent condition or better. Turned out to be much harder than I figured at the time! At this point I have all but two(?) cards (Matty Cycle & Collins yellow) (I also need Walsh - pink - if more than one exists...) Breakdown is 60% excellent or better, 30% very good and 10% lesser. I also have every back as well as some oddities.
I'll never catch Joshua but I love the set and I have started several "back" subsets including American Beauty (60% complete), Cycle (50% complete) and Honest Long Cut (35% complete).
Thanks for the thread! I am always glad to hear how much other collectors enjoy this set...

Ed

I thought Walsh pink is only a printing error?

and Val, my WOJO Hindu is staying put for now.

Default How condition sensitive are you with the T205s?

and do you find that you are more or less conditions sensitive with this set than your other pre-war interests?

I find myself much more interested in the Authentic or altered examples of these cards than I am with other sets. If I can find a really sharp looking altered T205, I am much more likely to buy and enjoy it than I am with similar conditioned cards from the other pre-war issues...

is that weird?

Ed, does this mean you have a Hobi "no stats"? I wonder how many are out there.

Default My fave!

http://www.sgccardregistry.com/set.a...4&userset=3598

I have about 300 maybe 320...
Mine is a complete basic set (plus all front variations) as I some times think I won't care about the back variations...then I get a couple and want to find a full master set

I have most of them slabbed at the link above here, and will likely continue with a raw set too. I probably have 100 dupes, but a few guys I have 3-4 of.
No debating about raw versus slabbed here...I will just build more sets

This is my favorite set of all. I like all grades, high or low. I hope to see more posts here!
