Thanx for posting. Already by the time of the article, the big tobacco brands we see on our card backs were dead and/or dying, other than Fatima and Helmar, says Burdick. Makes me wonder why that is...Camel have been around since the 1910's and Marlboro since the 20's...were Sweet Cap and Hassan just bad cigs? Anyone know?

Burdick wrote 7 articles for Hobbies magazine. I will be sharing the first 6 he wrote and am still hunting for the 7th. After all of these are posted, I will make the first one larger and then they will be archived permanently on the board, as the Egan handbook has been. Enjoy....

Leon, these are great - thanks. I like Burdick's comment in the first article about why cigarette cards were banned - probably by the "Society for the Supression of something or Other", and then the comment that "the general opinion of cigarettes is much different today."
If marijuana ever gets legalized, I would love to get involved in a venture to create baseball cards for inclusion - color lithos, of course.

The coronation referred to on the last page is the same one we all know from "The King's Speech".
