Default Illustrated London News woodcut

Happy to add this beautiful woodcut to my collection! IMO, this one ranks close to the Creighton Memorial in terms of eye appeal. Hope to get it framed soon!

Thanks Carlton, this woodcut came out of the Illustrated London News (March 23, 1889). It is titled "The American Baseball Players at Kennington Oval - Visit of the Prince of Wales" and measures ~W 23" x ~H 16." I have been searching for this woodcut for quite some time and was able to obtain online from a print shop. The woodcut represents the match up of "All America" vs "Chicago". The match-up is fascinating as it shows Anson on the upper left and John Ward on the upper right. Players are as follows:

All America
Ward, Captain, All America
E. Hanlon
C.A. Wood
W. Earle
J Healy
J Manning
Graine
T.L Brown
F.H Carroll
J.C Fogarty

Chicago
Anson, Captain, Chicago
E.N Williamson
J. Ryan
R H. Pettit
J.K Tener
Martin Sullivan
Fred Pfeffer
T.P Daly
T.L Burns
Mark Baldwin

Hi-
I recently acquired the Cobb snapshots (along with the Ruth I posted in the Bambino thread) shown below at the Wilmington MA card show. I really like the one where he is smiling, but the other two showing him at bat are really cool as well. I will be researching the games played later in the week.

Cool Cobb snaps!

BTW, I've never seen the Detroit "D" in that font on Cobber's jersey in the last photo. Very cool!

Any of you Detroit uniform experts know if this was a uniform that the Tigers wore for any length of time? I'm used to seeing the Old English D....

Very nice Alan! I'm sorry I missed you on Saturday...was stuck at the SGC booth : (

Hi Scott, I was previously trying to identify a Detroit Tigers player and one of the board members shared with me this excellent site. From the site, it looks like the Tigers wore this style uniform from 1918-1920.
