OK, so I'm a day early- sorry! Who has time tonight when I'm going to be busier than a one armed paper hanger passing out Halloween candy?

I don't yet have these in hand, but I just picked up 3 original snapshots of Jim Tobin's 2-0 no-hitter over the Brooklyn Dodgers at Braves Field on April 27, 1944.

Three things make this game rather intriguing:

1) There were only 1,934 patrons in attendance on this raw April day in WWII era Boston. This ranks as the second lowest attended no-hit game in the modern era. Fortunately, one of the fans, Bill Scott, took the time to capture photos of the starting pitcher, Jim Tobin and his battery mate Phil Masi warming up along the sideline prior to the contest. The best photo shows a panoramic shot of the Braves team celebrating at home plate at the conclusion of the game. Look at the scant few patrons in the stands! This photo really does a great job of showing you how dreary the day actually was...

2) Jim Tobin became only the 2nd pitcher to ever homer in his own no-hit game.

3) These snapshots make great complimentary pieces to the only known surviving ticket stub to Tobin's gem that I own in my no-hit ticket collection. I never thought I would find any game photos to this game, but you just never know!

Geez Scott. Those snapshots are awesome! You really are taking companion pieces to the next level. :)

The London Pavilion, Shaftesbury Avenue on Monday 6th July 1964 at 8.30pm. Attended by The Beatles, Princess Margaret and The Earl of Snowdon.

A Beatles pickup from a seller in Turkey? That's just crazy!! That's what I call flipping some rocks...very cool!

Isn't eBay unbelievable? As an occasional seller, I've sold things to people from all over the world. It always boggles my mind where collectors live.

Randall, I'd have to agree. The crowd at Tobin's no-hitter even looks smaller than the one that actually witnessed Randy Johnson's 300th win in Washington! ;)

Just got it in the mail this morning, and was thrilled to add this pennant to my Eagles collection. Its the only of its type I've ever seen.

Six feet of a pickup!

I'm still waiting to get this one in hand, but it's a giant panoramic of the 1910 Red Sox and Washington teams, including Walter Johnson, Speaker, Wood, etc. Can't wait for this to arrive, but I need to find some space for it first!

Well after what seemed like a drought that lasted years, I finally bought something I really wanted.

1939 HOF Yearbook Inagural edition.

The seller of this book dated it to 1939 because of the date on the cover as well as the fact that Gehrig is NOT in this one.

What I thought was a 1939 HOF yearbook, which was dated because Gehrig was in it, must be either a 1940 edition or a revised 1939 edition. I will wait until I have it in hand and inspect it before I will offer an opinion and close up scan.

I feel like a addict who's been forced on the wagon and finally gets off it. WHEW! I thought the drought would never end.

Just picked up a 1961 Game 4 world series ticket. I had planned on getting all the 61 WS tickets at some point but this one (it's a bit rough but should display well and couldn't pass it up for the great price) is the one where Whitey Ford broke Babe Ruth's World Series scoreless innings record.

Tris Speaker
 

Was lucky enough to be able to add this Circa 1921 Tris Speaker 35 inch decal bat to my collection. Decal has survived in remarkable condition considering the age of the bat. I believe this was the last of the decal series produced by Hillerich and Bradsby at the beginning of the 1920's.

Agreed.... that Speaker Bat is a super pick-up. Very rare decal variation, and looks to be in great shape as well. Many congrats on that one!

Really psyched to add the Detroit Tigers mascot bank to complete the Stanford Pottery set. I know I know, I'm still missing the extremely elusive A's white elephant bank, but this is complete as far as I'm concerned ;)

Awesome, Brock!!! They look great all together. That looks to be a rare Indians variation- second from the right. Never seen that smaller one with the "C" on the Chest. Can you shed any light on that one?

Also... a guy at the National had the elusive A's Elephant (NRMT condition). It was still at his booth as of that Saturday... so that's probably one example that is circulating and available :rolleyes:

The smaller Indian is sort of a mystery to me as well. It's not as big and also not a bank. It has no coin slot in the back feather where you would typically find it. If my memory serves correctly, I believe Rob D. has one like this as well. Maybe he knows more than I...

And it's good to hear that there is at least one example of the A's bank floating around that might pop up for sale somewhere. Of course, finding one is only half the battle. Scrounging up the funds to pay for one is another matter all together. How many years did you have to wait for yours? I remember it being one of your long sought quests.

You have quietly assembled a fantastic collection Brock. Congratulations!!! I may need to go after one of those Tiger examples. You "Brocked" the example you added last week:D

I had to wait about 7-8 years to finally add that damned Elephant (and paid a pretty penny, to do so). The one I saw at the National was priced about 25% less, was nearly as nice, and was a different variation. Mine says "Athletics" across the chest, and this one just has an "A". It had extremely minor shelf wear, limited to the bottom of base (not worthy of mention) and no chips, cracks, repairs or anything else. It's a beauty...

I'm afraid to even guess what you paid for the Tiger (and won't look- so please don't tell me). I paid a fortune for mine about 9 years ago, when these things were at their peak (and thought to be exceedingly rare). It's one of those things that ebay has proven to be a bit more prevalent than originally thought. Congrats on adding yours- looks like a beauty!

ps. There's still one more... the Indian with full head-dress. This one is possibly even rarer than the Elephant, and is as spectacular as it is rare. I've come to accept that I'll never own one... I think you'd have to spend well over $5K. Of course, if Lou Criscione is reading this, he can add his thoughts on rarity and value.

This is a great time to add the Tigers piece, if you are so inclined. The prices are as low as I can ever recall, and if the economy bounces back, these eventually will too. Plus, it's probably the best looking mascot of 'em all (IMHO ;))

Happy to add this beautiful woodcut to my collection! IMO, this one ranks close to the Creighton Memorial in terms of eye appeal. Hope to get it framed soon!

Thanks Carlton, this woodcut came out of the Illustrated London News (March 23, 1889). It is titled "The American Baseball Players at Kennington Oval - Visit of the Prince of Wales" and measures ~W 23" x ~H 16." I have been searching for this woodcut for quite some time and was able to obtain online from a print shop. The woodcut represents the match up of "All America" vs "Chicago". The match-up is fascinating as it shows Anson on the upper left and John Ward on the upper right. Players are as follows:
