Cool chris.. thanks for pointing that one for sale out..
So since others do exist (thanks Iggy).. I WOULD consider it a varation... wouldnt others agree? Still looking for a reasonable explination on whi it would not be a variation.... Thanks Jamie |

Are there any P150s that do not have the partial 'N'?

I've mentioned another possible variation before, but never really pushed it, because I thought it was just exclusive to certain backs...BUT there's two on ebay right now, that show the variation existing even among the same back.
http://cgi.ebay.com/1909-11-T206-PIE...item53e828934f http://cgi.ebay.com/1909-1911-T206-O...item2c5d49b048 Both of these Wilson's have the Piedmont 350 back. While showing both variations in the red/orange burst in the background.. By that same thought, is this partial N exclusive to the Piedmont 150's, and is there complete N versions within the Piedmont 150's? Last edited by novakjr; 07-05-2011 at 10:24 AM. |

Piedmont 150 backs can be found with the partial "N" and with the full "N". I'm relatively sure that partial "N's" do not exist with Piedmont 350 nor EL Principe Del Gales backs.

If it's a card with no variation within the same back, then I'd probably just consider it "that backs" version of the card...Which is what I originally thought the Wilson to be, until I saw both versions with the P350.. |

Both my P150 and EPDG Lundgren Chi have the full "N".

My own opinion on nodgrass, Shappe and Murr'y is that they are totally over-hyped. They are not error cards. Their names were not misspelled. There was a fleck of dust on a print run or two that caused what appear to be unusual spellings.
I draw the line at printer error, vs. dust on the printer plate. I don't particularly care for Sweeney No B either, for a similar reason. The only reason that these items earn a premium is because more than one person thinks its cool enough to bid against another in an auction or sale. Then the next guy who goes to sell the card marks it at that premium and cites the first sale. Repeat ad infinitum. Don't believe the hype. Collect real errors, not splotchy lettering.
