"Wright is commonly referred to as the "Grandfather of professional baseball" as he brought us the overhand pitch back in the 1800's."

Huh? Where did this come from?

You know it goes both ways. As a seller I would be rich if I got a penny for every buyer who said my item was over graded and not worth crap and then offered me half of what I wanted.

Sure at some point talking up a card gets silly, but as a seller aren't you SUPPOSED to talk up your product :-)

That being said not sure why you would like a lower SMR price when you want almost double for the card. Usually that goes the other way and SMR is usually way off, seems in this case they are way low...

Hi Jay, no overhand pitch, but found this :

"It was there where he is credited with introducing innovations such as backing up infield plays from the outfield and shifting defensive alignments based on hitters' tendencies"

Joe-I know Wright did a lot of things, just not what this guy stated.

I always loved the "it's graded x , but you can send it in to be regraded and it'll surely get a higher grade"

I am so glad my eBay selling days are behind me. I felt like a dirty 80's dealer hawking 50 ct lots of Cory Snyder by the end.

That's just asking for a negative when it doesn't.

Gotta love Cory Snyder...His '85 Olympic card was one of my favorites growing up. It's virtually worthless, but I still love it for sentimental reasons..

My favorite worthless card is 1989 upper deck
Jerome Walton. They were actually selling for $12
When they first came out and my old man wouldn't let me have one.
I was 8 so there was nothing I could do about it.
Junior Felix was the man too.

a quick ps, I had no issue at all with the original.
You gotta write something in the description on eBay so you might
As well pitch the card as best you can.

I agree with Iggy. Almost makes me wish for Peter Chao to liven up the board again. Naaahhh.

Chao sure did "spice" up the board in the old days though.

To be completely honest, i just recently found Net54 and began lurking here, right around the same time that Peter became a member and started posting (i believe that was back sometime around the winter of 2007 or so) and he got me coming back to Net54 every few hours, just to see what he was gonna post next, lol.

Same here. I had a stack of them as a teenager. Thought he was gonna be better then McGwire LOL!!

Plus he played for the Waterbury Indians, whose Stadium I could actually see from my grandmothers house.

I "see" Jeff's initial, comically well-put point, but hype is and always has been part of the game, especially in all fields of collectibles. Just check out Barrett-Jackson's classic car auctions. Each of us just has to decide for ourselves just what is the sizzle and what is the steak in any given case, with no ill will intended towards Pete in this regard at all. Most of us here are pretty good at doing that. Plus we're big boys now, and we've had extensive discussions on eye appeal versus technical grade, and we pretty much agree on the importance of the former.

May those items that you pull the trigger on fill your heart with joy for years to come.

Best, guys,

Larry
