Those Yankee Stadium Constuction shots are amazing... and Jimmy's view from right field is nothing short of spectacular.
Here's one perhaps not so monumental, but a Stadium you rarely see pictured. Maybe because the Senators' play over the years was so "forgettable". Anyway, here's a panoramic shot of Griffith Stadium in DC, taken in the early 1940s... Last edited by perezfan; 07-23-2010 at 12:35 PM. |

One of my earliest and rarest images of Wrigley Field - Real Photo 1914 postcard of a Chicago Federal League game in progress. I think it is against St. Louis (can read opposing team on scoreboard with magnifying glass and I was able to identify the exact game) The large building in left field was torn down after the 1914 season.

1. Yankee Stadium, 1932 WS 8x10 photo
2. Harry M. Stevens YS Panorama 1939. I think these used to be Graig's. The detail upon blow-up is stunning. 3. Spalding 24"x30" poster, prolly late 40's ![]() ![]() ![]() Some obscurities: 1. Honolulu Stadium, the old Termite Palace - not sure of date but snapshot came with a group of Prince Oana photos from 1930s 2. San Francisco Rec Park post card- dated to 1910s 3. Denver Bears Stadium post card 4. Meiji Jingu Stadium, Tokyo folding post card - present day home of the Tokyo Yakult Swallows ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Couple of common postcards that depict ballyards that looked the way ballyards are supposed to look: 1. Sportsmans Park, St. Louis 2. Briggs Stadium, Detroit ![]() ![]()

A great shot of a baseball game being played at the Ohio/Pennsylvania League ball field in Liverpool Ohio.
It's postmarked June 1911 and has the absolute coolest image I think I've ever seen on an RPPC. The townsmen and kids climbing the fence for a birds eye view of the ball game is just classic. ![]()

That is really nice - it shows how the orientation of the diamond has changed, with the left field line moving to the left to line up with the building that is still standing.

Not technically an "Old Stadium" shot, but it may work in this thread.

Thought some of you might enjoy this picture of game day outside Forbes Field in 1912. Pulled it off the "Shorpy" site on the internet. You can see a larger and more detailed image here: http://www.shorpy.com/node/9175?size=_original

One of my all-time favorite stadium shots, taken at Chicago's West Side Park during a game between the Cubs and Giants in 1908, about a month before the famous Merkle's Boner contest.

original negatives that I have of Nevin/Briggs Stadium both from their 1940 AL Championship season
First is a regular day game, I like how the sun is coming in and the sweet hats on the fellas. Second, is a shot from behind the plate during Game 3 of the World Series vs. the Cincinnati Reds Last edited by 3and2; 10-23-2010 at 01:38 PM. |
