Default 2010 resolutions

Well my first resolution will be a good one...it won't cost any money to organize my pre-war collection !! I have too many boxes with too many stray cards all about. I need a plan!
I started this in 2009, and I should be able to make some good headway early in the year.

Along with organizing, I resolve to NOT buy any cards that do not fit in my main objective and collecting focus. (Of course I said that in 2009 and simpy changed my focus to fit the cards I bought DOH!!)

And here is a big resolution that I really want to keep...put a couple hundred or a few hundred aside each month so that at the end of the year I will be able to buy one of those "knock your socks off" cards.
A nice E95-Eddie Plank, 34G-Lou Gehrig, CJ -Walter Johnson...that kinda stuff!!

Quality over Quantity in 2010!!

Default My resolution...

In 2010 I somehow want to figure out a way to save the cash for a T206 Cobb Bat Off that presents nicely.

I had wanted to get one this year, but we started the Dave Ramsey plan in Jan 2009 so it definitely wasn't an option this past year.

We're continuing with getting out of debt in 2010, so it will make it tough to acquire one again this year. I can still look for a great deal though!

If I just can't swing the Bat Off Cobb, then I would like to work hard on my '55 beater set, my '65 set, and perhaps pick up a couple of other lower cost T206s to go towards either my Cubs team or the 150 Series Only subsets.

1) T206: Finish the 'A's and get a good start on the 'B's.

2) Convince my wife to let me fly to Baltimore to the National by myself (she's a teacher and school starts back that week!)

How's working on T206 alphabetically going? I thought about doing that, but then realized I'd quickly get into the B's and C's which are loaded with HOF'ers and my progress would slow to a crawl. On the upside, if I had the card budget to do it, I'd be knocking off a ton of nice cards in the set by going alphabetically. With my actually modest budget though the best I could do alphabetically would be to focus on the commons with perhaps an occassional HOF'er, SL'er, or whatever.

Instead, I've taken the approach to go after some subsets (Cubs/Tigers/Giants, 150 only series, horizontals, etc.) and some of the more challenging commons and SL'ers as were described in another thread (Burch batting, Ganley, Shag, Foster, etc.). This still leaves some tough HOF'ers to acquire but leaves me plenty of other cards that I can get at more affordable prices and still feel a sense of accomplishment.

Oh then there is the backs subset of course too which is almost more fun to me than the fronts!

Anyways, good luck getting into the B's in 2010!

Thanks Donny. You are definitely taking the more scientific approach. I'm sure that when I hit an expensive HOF'er, it will take a good bit of patience to stick to my plan, and not just skip to the next cheaper one.

Good luck to everyone on their 2010 collecting endeavours.

I want to obtain the following cards in SGC 4's and higher.

  1. American Beauty backed T205 Cobb
  2. American Beauty/Cycle backed T205 Joss
  3. Cycle Backed T205 Mathewson
  4. Another large group of Pied 42 commons (NO HOF'ERS or Stars), Cycles, and American Beauty backed T205's in any shape.
  5. Drum, Blank backed, or Hindu beater T205.
  6. I would realy love and autographed T205 in about grade 4 condition graded by SGC/Spence so I can add it to my registry.

Nothing big just a few bank breakers.
