New Years Resolutions
With the New Year coming up what is your hobby “resolution” for the next season? Something you want to acquire or a collection you want to complete.
For myself (not vintage), I want to re-start collecting autographed 1957 cards. I started the set while I was in high school and then when I went to college I stopped working on it. At the moment I am only 99 cards away from completing the set, the only Hall of Famer that I need is Campanella. I was supposed to have gotten him to sign his card at a show but he passed away two weeks prior to the show. |
As far as vintage goes I would love to keep chugging along trying to complete my graded 1933 and 1934 Goudey sets as well as R313.
Also I would like to try and pick up as many Rube Waddell items I can afford because he is my favorite "vintage" ballplayer. |
2010 resolutions
Well my first resolution will be a good one...it won't cost any money to organize my pre-war collection !! I have too many boxes with too many stray cards all about. I need a plan!
I started this in 2009, and I should be able to make some good headway early in the year. Along with organizing, I resolve to NOT buy any cards that do not fit in my main objective and collecting focus. (Of course I said that in 2009 and simpy changed my focus to fit the cards I bought DOH!!) And here is a big resolution that I really want to keep...put a couple hundred or a few hundred aside each month so that at the end of the year I will be able to buy one of those "knock your socks off" cards. A nice E95-Eddie Plank, 34G-Lou Gehrig, CJ -Walter Johnson...that kinda stuff!! Quality over Quantity in 2010!! |
My resolution...
In 2010 I somehow want to figure out a way to save the cash for a T206 Cobb Bat Off that presents nicely.
I had wanted to get one this year, but we started the Dave Ramsey plan in Jan 2009 so it definitely wasn't an option this past year. We're continuing with getting out of debt in 2010, so it will make it tough to acquire one again this year. I can still look for a great deal though! If I just can't swing the Bat Off Cobb, then I would like to work hard on my '55 beater set, my '65 set, and perhaps pick up a couple of other lower cost T206s to go towards either my Cubs team or the 150 Series Only subsets. |
2010
seeking photographic and lithographic T206 antecedents
best, barry |
1) T206: Finish the 'A's and get a good start on the 'B's.
2) Convince my wife to let me fly to Baltimore to the National by myself (she's a teacher and school starts back that week!) |
I would like to complete the Southern League subset for the T206's. Have 10 more to get.
|
mine seem to be inter-related...
i have two resolutions for 2010...
1) never get cheated, and 2) boycott psa |

I'd like my Cy Young cards to lose weight.

Where do you live that school starts that early???? |
How's that working for you?

Instead, I've taken the approach to go after some subsets (Cubs/Tigers/Giants, 150 only series, horizontals, etc.) and some of the more challenging commons and SL'ers as were described in another thread (Burch batting, Ganley, Shag, Foster, etc.). This still leaves some tough HOF'ers to acquire but leaves me plenty of other cards that I can get at more affordable prices and still feel a sense of accomplishment. Oh then there is the backs subset of course too which is almost more fun to me than the fronts! Anyways, good luck getting into the B's in 2010! |
My 2010 Resolution . . .
.
. . . is to spend "smarter". I am a pack rat by nature. Where one is great, two is super, and so on. But for every duplicate I squirrel away (I almost never part with duplicates), if I just parked that cash aside, I'd eventually end up with a nice stash inwhich to purchase something far nicer than any combination of dups. But fighting (my) human nature is a day-to-day challenge. |
My 2010 resolution ...
Break the obsession ... yeah, right ... who am I kidding.
2010 Goal - only 1 card... same as ever. |
In 2010 I promise...
1. To post more on this forum.
2. To figure out how to be more effective in searching for cards on eBay. 3. To organize and enjoy the cards that I already own, and be less concerned that I'm not adding a new T206 to my collection every week. Best wishes to all on achieving his or her goals in the coming year. Joe |
Stay focused! Pre-WWII Red Sox and N172 ONLY. I always seem to add something else to collect. In 2010, that stops.

My New Year's resolution is to attempt to get my collection back to where it was in 2006 and 2007. Unfortunately, I had to sell a good deal of it last year to help the family out. It's a shell of its former self......but hopefully, things will get better :)

To develop better focus since I am essentially a set collector. Quit straying in to sets which I have no chance of completing (that doesn't mean giving up the E94 master set however) I have enough of those with D311, 1911 Zeenut and T210.
Happy holidays everybody :D tbob |
As I may be buying a Dental Practice this year at some point I may be a bit shorter on cash, so it likely means I will have less to spend in the short term (but potentially more in the long run!). I am trying to stay good this year about just focusing on sets or projects I have already started.
Mainly... -1911-23 Zeenuts (with the occasional 1924-38 pickup along the way.) -Colgans (E254 & both E270 sets--I'd lke to knock 10-15 off the E254 wantlist this next year) -E121-like cards (all backs, the wierder the better) -Pre-1930 player pinbacks (especially Cameo Pepsin pins) -Rhett |
My New Year's Resolution
With regards to cards, I'd like to add at least one nice example of a catcher pose card from the following sets:
1909-1911 Obaks 1912 Home Run Kisses 1912 Zeenuts I also hope to attend the Baltimore National since I haven't attended a National since Atlantic City was the host. The opportunity to maybe see a game at Camden Yards might be the motivation I need to do a road trip. Does anyone know if the Orioles are home during the National? Happy New Year to all! Patrick |

National Convention is August 4th (Wed) through August 8th (Sun). Orioles have home games August 3rd, 4th and 5th versus the Angels and then August 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th versus the White Sox. |
Thanks
Michael,
Thanks for the info! Happy Holdiays! Patrick |
National. E94's. Cards of 4 main. MONO.

I would like to actually trade some this year. I mostly buy, and sometimes sell, but never trade anymore. So I'll start early. If anyone has any BF2 or M101-6 they would like to trade, let me know
|
I resolve to
get serious about selling/trading extra graded cards that I've been meaning to sell/trade.
Along those lines, anyone interested in a '36 Goudey R. Ferrell PSA 5 or P. Waner PSA 7? |

Tell them to consider salad... |
1. Bring my low grade SGC T206 collection to 98% with the acquisition of Kid Elberfeld - Portrait - Washington.
2. Study sets before I start collecting them. 1948 Leaf Football looked good, but is a pain to complete. (...but it led me to the 1948 Bowman Football, so all is well.) |
Things to do
Gonna try to concentrate on finishing up my '52 Topps set with all the variations I can find. Been saying this for 2 years now but just havn't really got into it. Got the base set (1-407 with Page/Sain combos, the 3??? Boone background colors and the Campos black star and now working on the #1-80 Black/Red combos (need around 30 or so???) but I know there's others
Can I please get some variation input form you guys. I know of some of them but I'm sure there's some I don't know of. Like the color background variations, etc,etc.....anything..........can i get a scan of the Bob Feller background variations from someone? just so I can see the difference Any input and/or list of variations that anyone has will be greatly appreciated. PM me or email. Thanks and a Happy New Year to all on forum..... |
As far as collecting, I'm going to try and reach 50% completion on my T206 set. I'm currently sitting at 33%.

I WILL finally get a nice eye appealing '33 Goudey Ruth this year. The first time I ever saw one was at a local Flea Market in 1981. The guy wanted $125 for it. I begged my Dad to give or loan me the money and he wouldn't. He wasn't going to pay $125 for a piece of cardboard. I still remind him of that.
Other than that, try to stay a little more focused on some sets I have started and should be easy to complete with some focus. |
My resolution is to try to be nice to everyone, including Net54 posters who don't agree with me, even though they are wrong. :D
