I am sure these are very rare and I have no problem with someone with a lot of money paying for what they like, but HOLY CRAP those are ugly cards.
When factoring in the condition it seems these are some of the most valuable cards in the hobby. I dont even know if some of the rarest 19th century cards we all covet would sell for 10K+ in that type of condition. I can only think of a few cards in the world that would bring that type of money for that condition. I never would have thought that a 1954-55 Hot Dog card would be worth more on average than sets like 4 Base Hits and G&B Chewing Gum. |

Usually in a situation like this it's two guys going back and forth all night, but who knows.

Personally...I'd rather have a beat up t206 plank...or a decent 33-34 goudey lajoie...or an e94 set in good condition...or a run of t206 backs...including the toughies...shall I go on?

Funny or not so funny, dad used to carry a stack of about 50 to 60 of these to local shows back in the 1980s, I think he had $5 or $10 each on them and we couldn't give them away. He finally blew the stack out at $3 each. Of course we all have these horror stories I guess.
I won a much nicer 1955 Triandos in a past Huggins and Scott auction for about $400 so who knows what drives these prices. |
