Peter and Todd now that you guys have laid that out it does make more sense to me about the BP's. I still don't like the fact that I have to pay 15% of what I bid regardless. Why does it have to be that high Cant' an auction house survive off 6-10%? Leon and Scott do 10% and I am sure they are just fine. Thats 5% each in simple math.

So why isn't there an auction house that charges 3-5% sellers fees irregardless or the reach around you give them and charge 3-5% BP. I would bid on that. Its less than Taxes on an item. Oh yeah then I have to pay some absurd shipping $ not close to actuall shipping price it cost.

So if I bid $8500 on the T205 Young and win it will cost me $9775. That is $1275 in fees

If it is done the way I think is fair. $8500 cost me $8925 + shipping and the seller gives up $425. That is $850 for the house.

I could sleep at nite with that justification. This is just my opinion but I would like to hear if it makes sense to anyone else or if I am pissing up a rope into the wind here

If you're willing to spend $6000 on the card, why do you care who gets what % of the fees? If the house took a smaller percentage, you'd still be out of pocket the same amount for the card.

slight correction...we (Brockelman and Luckey Auctions) are 0% sellers fee and 12.5% buyers premium.

Andrew.....you are pissing up a rope.....nobody likes the 17-20% buyers fees but it's a cost of bidding. While Leon & Scott can 'make it' on 12.5%, they're not doing this for a living nor are they producing really high quality catalogs shipping to thousands of people. Like you and everyone else, I've paid my share of the fees but each and every time I bid in one of these auctions, I set a limit (WITH JUICE) and try not to go more than 1 or 2 bumps over my limit. Cause, you know, it's just a limit--right? Over the years (mid 1990's to now) the burden of the fees that the auction houses charged has shifted from a 50/50 type breakdown between consignor and bidder to nearly all the burden being on the bidder. This has allowed the auction houses to continue to entice consignors to bring great stuff out of the woodwork. If they still had to pay the 10-15% consignment fee, I think many of the items of the last few years would still be in lockboxes out there. It also overinflates what the goods sell for when you include the juice and perpetuates the 'growth' in the collectibles industry, which we all benefit from.

As Dennis Miller used to say......."Thats just my opinion....I could be wrong...."

Could someone set me straight, as I don't really collect the set, but doesn't this T210 Schulze have writing on the front, albeit neat, showing his position and the year? If so, how is that a PSA 4? If not, this must be a variation, as I know I've seen an example or so without this "information" on the front.

Andrew, again, you are not "paying" a fee, you are bidding what you are bidding factoring in the 17.5 percent, the "fee" is just an accounting notion that determines what the house keeps and what the consignor gets. Your thought process should be exactly the same if the fee is 10 percent or if it's 50 --your net bid is your bid, and everyone else's too.
