I sure hope Jason doesn't read this thread. This is just the type of thing to make a young kid not want to collect cards.

Hal - Great cards and good luck with the auction.

Barry - Great auction once again. The stuff you bring to the table every auction never ceases to amaze me.

Others - good grief! Who cares who owns the cards in the auction? Haven't we learned by now that it doesn't matter who comes forward with pictures or links - people who want the card will find it. I really don't think that Hal saying (or not saying) it was his card and posting a pic of it here will change the final selling price at all. We all got the catelog from Barry right? Are you going to bid more now that you know it is Hal's card in the auction?

I guess I just don't see the point.

Yes I did, because they agreed beforehand to do the mock PSA slabbed version of the card and mail it out. I thought it was cool when they did that with a previous card they were selling (Gibson?), so I wanted to see it done with the Wagner.

Hal, no need to apologize. I certainly don't think you need to defend yourself for putting your cards up for auction. I also don't think you need to hype the auction either (The quality items in Barry's catalog speak for themself), but the response to your enthusiasm is a little over the top IMO. I'm not certain what the big deal is.

When I was buying cards and spending money, a lot of the posters on here who sell cards for a living were very nice to me.

But now that I might be selling a few cards and taking business away from them... attitudes take a 180-degree turn.

My opinion is that it's fine to mention that certain lots in an auction are
yours. There's no need to be covert about it. I understand bidders don't like
lots of interest being 'outed,' but in a thread devoted to the auction,
everything's already been outed.

The whole point is that we shouldn't be touting our cards that are for sale on the main board. It's a rule for me, you, and everyone else. I think that is what has some folks a little carried away. I don't think it's the end of the world....certainly not as bad as taking a wrinkle out of a card (call me "instigator")....and one should not be characterized as a pedophile, murderer, or terrorist, for doing said bad deed....IMO it's not that big of a deal. Where's my Kubota anyway? regards

I agree Leon... but like I said, I don't think touting an ENTIRE AUCTION is anywhere near the same as touting your own specific cards.

Everyone is free to look back and see that I was NOT the one to mention which cards were mine in the auction.

Hal- Jerry Smolin is no longer in the business; and Leon- with alternate side of the street parking, you would have to switch it to the other side of the street every Tuesday and Thursday. Now I know why I never heard of it- I don't think they exist in a city. But it looks cool. How fast does it go from 0 to 60??

We started in 1998- our first was the one with the six Just So's- and lasted until about 2000 or so. It wasn't meant to be.

Why is everybody breathing down Hal's back so much? He made one mention of some of his cards in an upcoming auction (in a thread started by somebody else) and put a smiley face on it - indicating to me that they were his and it was a joke. Sometimes I think people here can be too self-righteous. It is what turns a lot of people off from participating on this board. Hal has been a great contributor to this board for a long time. One tongue-in-cheek reference to some cards of his that he has in an upcoming auction is really not a big deal in my opinion. Life is too short.
