Travis JensenI had a lot more Seals and Oaks stuff, but I recently sold it all to put towards a down payment to my new house. In any event, here is my new one:
The other day I acquired this Frank "Lefty" O'Doul trophy / drink mixer from an older gentleman who has had the item in his possession for 30+ years. He said he purchased a vintage trunk at a garage sale in Marin back in the early 70s and this was one of the items he found inside. The item has been in storage and uncirculated ever since.
The trophy stands approximately 15" in height, is made of sterling silver, and has a nice wooden top on it. Although this is a drink mixer, it doesn’t look like something you would want to mix drinks with. It’s definitely more of a mantle piece.
The inscription on the trophy reads as follows:
“To: Legionnaire Frank “Lefty” O’Doul
From: Voiture 732 (American Legion Symbol) San Diego County
Annual Child Welfare Benefit Game
Padres vs. Seal
July 15th, 1938”
As you can see by the photo below, this item has been very well preserved.
I haven’t yet had a chance to do any research on this item, but I am looking forward to getting started here in the next couple of days. I’ll keep you all posted on what I find. I’m going to call the Voiture 732 in SD tomorrow and see if they can provide any information on this item. Also, Today, I called Lefty O’Douls Restaurant here in San Francisco and am scheduled to show him the item. They showed great interest in the piece.
My question is, are there any PCL experts on here that might be able to shed some additional info on this item, or point me in the direction to someone that does? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
