cmokingThe PSA population for PSA 7s of the Hornsby card is 48. PSA 8s is 43. PSA 9s is 5. Wow, that's more like a modern 1976 Topps Population report than a 1935 card.
The reason it went for less than $600 is simply due to the supply. More than 95 other people in the world already have that card in near-mint or better (well, that's assuming no one owns more than two, and assuming there are non-PSA graded cards that are NM or better).
Diamond Stars as a whole seem to have very high population reports. The 1933 Goudeys are usually pointed to as plentiful, but if it is, then Diamond Stars are a dime a dozen.
Don't get me wrong, I really like the look of that set, just saying there's plenty of high-end cards in that set.
