Posted By: <b>identify7</b><p>How can it be that a player with his credentials is so unpopular that his PSA7 Diamond Star drew less than $600 recently on eBay?<br /><br />Also:<br /><br />'35 Diamond Star GAI 5 = $141<br /> 4 = $91<br /><br />'33 Goudey GAI 4.5 = $292<br /> 2 = $75<br /> 1 = $37<br /><br /><br />Surely someone must know his lifetime BA is between Jackson + Cobb. What prices do their cards draw in comparible grades? What did Hornsby do ?<br /><br />Oh wait, I know. It is just that Goudeys and Diamond Stars are so common. But then why did his V61 Neilsons sell for under $50. in PSA 1?

His appeal goes well beyond students of the game.<br /><br />Ruth is...Ruth. The greatest drawing card and most revolutionary player in history. <br /><br />Hornsby is perpetually #2, sort of the Vice-President of baseball players. As we all know the vice-presidency isn't worth a pitcher of warm piss (so said VP John Nance Garner).

But the catcher is not.

Posted By: <b>cmoking</b><p>The PSA population for PSA 7s of the Hornsby card is 48. PSA 8s is 43. PSA 9s is 5. Wow, that's more like a modern 1976 Topps Population report than a 1935 card. <br /><br />The reason it went for less than $600 is simply due to the supply. More than 95 other people in the world already have that card in near-mint or better (well, that's assuming no one owns more than two, and assuming there are non-PSA graded cards that are NM or better).<br /><br />Diamond Stars as a whole seem to have very high population reports. The 1933 Goudeys are usually pointed to as plentiful, but if it is, then Diamond Stars are a dime a dozen.<br /><br />Don't get me wrong, I really like the look of that set, just saying there's plenty of high-end cards in that set.
