If you're into bird watching at all, I'd highly recommend the Merlin Bird ID app.
You can be on a hike with the app running and it will identify birds by the sound. It's totally free, and it works really well. It's fun because you can hear a bird without being able to see it and the app will identify it. It also keeps track of all the birds you've identified. I'm up over 100. It's the only app I've ever owned that I seriously considered giving money to.
