It really boils down to the particular card. In general, I agree BVG will generally be 1 grade easier than SGC but it is far from linear. There's a good guy I did a deal with on the bst board who successfully crossed a 48 Leaf Ted Williams BVG 2 to an SGC 2. I wasn't surprised because it looked like a legit 2 in any holder. Generally speaking, I suspect it's easier to cross lower grade cards successfully. As you get into the upper echelons, where the gap might be highest is in that 6-8 range. A BVG in this ballpark is probably going to be tougher to cross.
But as I started to say in the beginning, it mostly depends on the specific card. |

My guess is that modern BVG would average 1-2 grades lower than SGC, but it could depend. Some older BVG slabs weren't all bad. In about 2000 - 2002 when Beckett briefly did subgrades with vintage - those grades were very accurate, IMO.

My guesses (based on that one pic):
Bench - 7.5 Ryan - 7 Clemente - 6.5

Time will tell. I will send them in to SGC in the next couple weeks

Bench looks nice. Could be an 8, probably lower. Ryan could possibly get a 7, but hard to tell. Clemente is rough and should not have been crossed. It will grade 6 at best.

Agree with John about older BVG slabs.

Ryan: BVG 7 -> SGC 6.5
Bench: BVG 8 -> SGC 7.5 Clemente: BVG 7.5 -> SGC 7 So .5 grade drop across the board. Thanks for sharing!

Boy I was off base. That's what I get for trying to estimate grade off a photo. All in all, not a terrible result. Did you send these in the slabs or take them out first? I wonder if SGC was just like F it and dropped them all a half grade, or if that was merely a coincidence.

But agreed that it's always good to confirm whether that actually happened, because you never know! And also agreed that the results are pretty good overall. While it's always nice to get things to cross straight over, a 0.5 grade drop is a lot better than you often get from these crossovers.
