How would you display the items you bring if not in a display case? Personally I wouldn't just put $50k of material out on an open table and walk away. With the display cases at least you can keep your items under lock and key and you're free to roam.

+1. I sold some stuff out of my display cases at both the first two of these, and didn't feel out of place. As long as it's nice vintage material, I see nothing wrong with adding some possible commerce to spice up the proceedings and make the show a little more exciting. I guess if that started overwhelming the show and tell vibe, I could see banning it, but as the show has been so far, I would have no problem with some buying and selling going on and even with some dealers showing up for that purpose. If I'm wrong, then make it a firm rule that there will be no money changing hands and that will be that.

I think we have been pretty clear about our intent for the get together... there are multiple posts on the topic. It is not a card show. It is a day for prewar (mainly) baseball collectors to hang out, show collections, discuss cards, make connections, eat, drink, and, if a deal develops, buy/sell/trade. It is a very laid back atmosphere, but there were definitely some sales and trades that took place last year, and that is fine. Just don't think of it as dealers on one side of the table and buyers on the other side.

There will be some space limitations, so for those who want to set up, plan on no more space than about the area that two showcases would cover. Space is first come, first served, and please monitor/safeguard your cards at all times. All of the following are ok:

-Displaying your cards in showcases (2 max)

-Bringing cards and laying them out on a table

-Bringing cards in a carry case/storage box and just walking around with them

-Coming just to look at other people's collections (although we would encourage you to bring something that you collect)

I think those who have attended before (and commented above) have been accurate in their descriptions of the feel of the event. If anyone wants to see what it looked like last year, here is a link to a video I posted on my YouTube channel:

I will most likely attend this year. The first two years I lived closer (Springfield), but the timing was not good. Even though I just bought a house farther away (Fredericksburg) the timing is much better. Hopefully, you will not lock the doors and turn off the lights when I bring mainly pre WWI Olympic items (gasp!).

Michael, I doubt that the kind organizers will "lock the doors and turn off the lights," but you might be asked to set up your display in the janitor's closet!

I was thinking more a shot or a hammer.

Can you guys shoot some random videos* of the event and post them?
It'd be great to put faces with Net54 user names...and, of course, see all of the deliciousness you guys are looking at as you nibble on gluten-free snacks!!

*But please do a lad a favor and edit out all the talk centered on WAR in any conversations filmed.

We are just over a week out, so wanted to reiterate a few things:

The event, which runs from 11am to 5pm (Saturday, February 1, 2025), is free to attend. We will be accepting voluntary donations at the door for Wolf Trap Animal Rescue (www.wtarescue.com), a local non-profit organization that saves dogs and cats that would otherwise be euthanized.

A formal card display is absolutely not necessary, and plenty of people last year just brought a box of cards and walked around. It is fine to come even if you don’t bring any cards, but I would encourage you to bring something from your collection. Trading, buying, selling - all fine - or just show your collection so we can all see some cool cards. I think we have discussed the show "guidelines" ad nauseam...

The event will take place in the Monroe Room (approx. 1680 sf). Last year, the space was sufficient, and we were able to spread out a bit once we had an idea of how many people would be showing up. For those of you that do want to set up a display, I expect that everyone should have room for up to two display cases (or equivalent). We will do our best to make adjustments as necessary to ensure that everyone has space. Table space/table location will be on a first come/first served basis. Please watch your cards at all times.

When you arrive at 1757 (45120 Waxpool Road, Dulles, VA), there will be plenty of parking in front of the clubhouse. Use the main entrance and take a left once you are in the clubhouse. You will see the Monroe Room on your right.

Name tags will be available, and are recommended, since many of us may only know names and/orNet54 profile names, but not faces.

Free food and drinks will be available.

WiFi will be available during the event: 1757Golf (no password)

Big thanks to Joe T/Goldin Auctions for sponsoring the event this year!

Andrew

I believe I am going to come down for this too. I will bring a few early bats, a lemon peel ball or two, and a binder or two of photos and ephemera. I am looking forward to seeing everyone there. Thank you to the organizers and sponsor!

I'm planning on making the trip and if I remember to pack the stuff (traveling for business on Friday), I'll have a PSA 1 t206 Magie available as well as a 1914 Polo Ground Joe Jackson PSA 9 . Here are scans of those.

I may grab a few others that are not uncommon but maybe a little tougher due to the grades (think PSA 8 and 8.5s). We'll see how the mood strikes me tomorrow evening when I'm grabbbing some cards.

Looking forward to it!

Coming down from New York, can't wait to see everyone. Will have most of my pre-war Senators collection with me, as it seems SGC will not be getting a few of my items back in time for the gathering!

Thanks again to all the organizers.

I'll be there!

I'll have some trade bait and $ and am looking to add a lower grade, lower end playing days Ruth to my PC in case anyone has something that fits the bill.

Also looking for a few low grade '35 Goudey 4-in-1's to complete my set:

I just saw that this one sold the other day for $127!!! Blew my mind. I don't collect that issue, but I thought the price was high for the condition. Had lots of staining.

How pre-war cards can you find for less than $127 these days? And you get 4-for-1!
