Did you try soaking it in lawyer tears? I hear that works wonders.

What about tape that has turned brown and that coloration has leaked into the cardboard? While the tape may be removed, what about the resulting staining? I've heard conflicting things. The same longtime card "fixer" I'm thinking of publicly said that he could and could not restore such an issue at different times.

Pure water from a melted snowman can remove any stain. If you want your cards altered, it's the only way. I know a guy. Send it to him. He'll perform the alteration for a reasonable fee.

Actually, I'm more curious for non-card reasons, but it's the same basic principle.

Early collectors of autographed 3x5s and GPCs would sometimes tape over the autographs. It can be unsightly. I have some pretty valueless ones that I'd sacrifice for the sake of experimentation. No, I'm not presently sitting on any huge/valuable names that I'd do this with. Just more curious if it can be done when the tape has degraded to such a level.

Tape can be removed. The yellow stains it sometimes leaves behind cannot. Depends on the tape. But there is no magic lawyer tear potion that will remove tape stains without also destroying the card.
