Restoration Failure !!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/335729109115
Somebody thought if he could remove the tape stains on the front of this Beliveau rookie card, then he'd make himself a few thousand dollars! https://media.tenor.com/beTSEyCoetcA...ke-it-rain.gif Not sure what the hell he sprayed on it ... maybe OxiClean Max-Force Stain Remover??:eek::eek::D:D And congrats to PSA for catching the restoration! See? They're not THAT bad ! :D:D:D https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-8mji...00.750.jpg?c=2 ~The End~ |
Looks a lot better than having old yellow tape on there.

You can easily remove tape without ruining a card. Also, PSA and SGC both allow tape removal. Also, despite what Peter and Jeffrey would like you to believe, you will not go to prison for removing tape from a baseball card. I promise you.

If it were me, I'd have maybe tried to get the tape off with water and then left the rest of the card alone. |
"Frosty" lol.

I have an Aaron RC I was given for Christmas as a teenager in the late 1980s from my parents. It has some ugly tape on it. Since I will keep it for life (unless destitute) and don't grade cards, I would much rather it look like the OP card than how it currently does. Just my opinion.

Soaked some 52 Topps once, tape fell right off after a day or so. Got some good grades from PSA.
Tried w/ 51 Bowman, and the tape never did come off , so who knows. |

What about tape that has turned brown and that coloration has leaked into the cardboard? While the tape may be removed, what about the resulting staining? I've heard conflicting things. The same longtime card "fixer" I'm thinking of publicly said that he could and could not restore such an issue at different times.

Actually, I'm more curious for non-card reasons, but it's the same basic principle.
Early collectors of autographed 3x5s and GPCs would sometimes tape over the autographs. It can be unsightly. I have some pretty valueless ones that I'd sacrifice for the sake of experimentation. No, I'm not presently sitting on any huge/valuable names that I'd do this with. Just more curious if it can be done when the tape has degraded to such a level. |

Ty Cobb with tape on one side

Had this card for over 40 years, would love to have the tape remove on left side. Dosnt affect the. Cobb image. until some miracle worker comes up with tape removal, it stays as is.

If there is no yellow discoloration of the tape which has seeped into the cardboard, it can indeed be removed without compromising the card. Due to the lighting in your photo, I find it impossible to tell where yours stands for certain, but it looks like a prime candidate for removal. I see no issue in tape removal. Not sure why anyone would. The tape itself is the alteration, as it wasn't there to begin with! |

I have about 3/4 set (missing about 60 or so) of 49 Bowman baseball that are all taped. This tape would not come off no matter what I tried. Finally, I decided to send Campy in with the tape attached. SGC graded it and I sold it.
I still have about 180 or so with the tape still on them. They're about the same condition as the Campy pictured. Unfortunate with the tape, but what the heck. |
