I think Roe would beat Wade about 60% of the time. Control pitcher against a contact hitter.

Now can we table the con law lesson and get back to cards, please?

More interesting than sophomoric Bulgarian jokes.

Just wondering since this has still not been solved, has there been any talk that the thieves may be from South America? In ritzy areas of Michigan and other states, there have been home burglaries committed by highly organized gangs later determined to be from places like Chile. Some of the suspects later arrested had come to the US through a Visa Waiver Program.

I really can't see this being orchestrated by anyone from a country where baseball isn't appreciated.

My Bulgarian jokes were indeed even duller and plainer, as they never matriculated beyond freshmanic status.

Peter, I thought we had all agreed that references to Bulgaria or Bulgarians stealing baseball cards was now a dead horse topic; yet, you just brought it up again. I suggest we all just forget Bulgaria exists and concern ourselves with the theft of Ash's cards. John

I made no such agreement, nor would I; it would be insulting to Bulgaria to forget it exists. After all, Bulgarians have done all sorts of stuff. I can't come up with anything off the top of my head, but there must be something. The real dead horse is the theft, at least until (if) there is some sort of development.

Well, they joined NATO after years of Soviet dominance. That's good in my book, which is now closed on all deviations from the theft and its ongoing investigation.

Since this thread has momentarily gone off the rails, I stumbled onto this featuring a form of baseball I've never seen played by a Bulgarian team earlier this year.

Bulgarians are big into cards!!

In fact, I'll be on the new season of 90 Day Fiancé trying to secure a K-1 Visa for my love, Ekaterina in Plovdiv Province.

She claims she's an avid card collector, but I guess like every other person appearing on the show, I'll have no idea what the truth is until I touch down in Plovdiv Airport and finally meet her.

May the cardboard love gods be with me!

Seeing and hearing all the updated National news, pictures etc. This dealer Ash right now has bigger & badder & bolder inventory right now loaded with high end & big $ slabs & memorabilia. Truly blows my “effin” mind he bounced back this quick.

Some explanations I can think of:

a) He's super-rich and that's why he could bounce back so quickly.

b) The cards he's selling are mostly consignments (and the cards that were stolen were mostly consignments)

c) All the stolen cards were his, but the insurance company gave him all his money back and he bought himself some new cards!

Yeah, because insurance companies are chomping at the bit to write seven figure checks two weeks after cards of contentious price points were stolen.

It sounds like all the concern for his well being were misplaced. The stolen case was likely just one part of his inventory. Cancel the GoFundMe.

Exactly. It was Moe behind the liquor store, who told me.

I don't really want to say except it's someone pretty close to the investigation. And it's not the victim. I haven't spoken with him in 6 months or more.....

If the insurance company paid Ash some or all of his claim, then the investigation has hit a brick wall and the cards could very well be in a country like Brazil that has no extradition treaty with the US. Would love to know what % of the cards were Ash's and what % consignors. Ash would have plenty of liability for the cards stolen on consignment, turning a 2 party claim into a 3 party as well. Hope he has a bailee's liability policy, which would cover him for loss of cards from a consignor while they are in his possession.

I think it’s a little more nuanced. Something about having kids in Brazil, and therefore they won’t extradite.

The imaginary perp who ended up in Brazil has imaginary kids in Brazil, therefore negating a valid extradition treaty with the US?

The imaginary kids would not prevent the extradition of the imaginary perp if he was captured in Brazil for an extraditable crime in the US.

First, I mention Bulgaria, and we all know where that went. Now, I mention Brazil, as an example country without knowing a thing about their extradition policy, so I offer my final country for consideration as the possible site for Ash's stolen cards: Vatican City, the smallest country in the world.
I have been a bit worried about Elm. We have had no report from him in Bulgaria where he went to court a local monobrowed maiden. Elm, speak to us, are you O.K?
