Cheesy??? I’ll have you know the episode you’re referencing was just nominated for a Tooby. That’s YouTube’s equivalent of the Emmys and the Grammys.

Or not.

Another great episode, Mark. I especially liked the wax statue you have of that old washed-up ballplayer....

Did the Christy Mathewson pennant have a label or maker's mark on it? I wonder if Repco might have made it as that letter font looks similar to others by them from that era.

Thank you, Kyle and Jason... much appreciated!

Kyle:
I don't recall if the Matty Pennant has a Tag sewn to the reverse. I want to say no, but am not positive. I really should have made note before framing it.

Jason:
No Natty for me this year. Would love to go, but it's just not in the cards. Hope you have a great show, and I hope to see you in Chicago next year for sure.

A couple of great pennants in today's Hunt auction.

This one went for $8400 with bp. It's one hell of a nice pennant. Hope someone here managed to pick it up.

Though I'm not the consignor, it used to be mine. Congrats to whoever got it!

Wow, what a beauty! That series are the best-looking pennants ever made, IMO.

Default Stumbled Upon Two 1930's Original Six Hockey Pennants

I am always amazed by the stunning pennnants that I come across on this board and the most knowledgeable contributors who provide such valued opinions. I spoke to Mark about these two 1930's pennants and he graciously provided his opinion on them. He mentioned that I should share the photos with the board members, so here they are.

In the limited research that I was able to do, they seem to both be unique and rare pennants from the Montreal Canadiens and Toronro Maple Leafs. Believe it or not, living here in Montreal, I was not going to purchase the Maple Leafs pennant because of the bad blood between the Canadiens and the Leaf hockey teams, but there was too much history and beauty in that pennant that I also decided that they belonged together...boy that was hard to say..LOL

Dimensions of the pennants are as follow:
Canadiens 16 1/2 x 7 1/2
Leafs 17 x 7 1/2

Valued opinions are very much appreciated.

Thank you Mark.

Wow those are really cool! I’ve never seen those before. Pretty cool that with just those two, you have 33% of the then-NHL.

Good call buying the Leafs pennant. It’s not as if your mom bought you a Leafs sweater from the Eaton’s catalogue …

Thank you for your kind words!

I got to say, i felt very uncomfortable and disloyal opening up that package in my home and pulling out a Maple Leafs item...went straight to the corner in shame...LoL

...but couldn't turn my back on this one of a kind piece.

Sometimes the tough decisions are the best. That's definitely the case here!

We don't get to see many Hockey pennants here, and these two have got to be the earliest ones posted. Awesome pickups!

Fully agree... Horrible decision to go away from having the players wear their own teams' uniforms. Who the hell made that ill-advised decision? And are those ugly softball-style uniforms really the best they could come up with? If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

As a kid, the magic was seeing all the different uniforms on the field at once. And what a thrill to count how many of "your" team's uniforms were out there. There was no shortage of Reds' Uniforms gracing the field during the 1970s!

Hopefully someone in MLB will have the good sense to switch it back.

I think the Uni’s are supposed to be some 21st century version of the first all star game uni’s. I’m not going to put photos in, but if you are familiar with the uniforms for the 1933 game they look similar to these albeit very ugly uniforms.

Rob, I hate the current all-star uniforms and wished they go back to every player wearing their teams uniform. It sounds like MLB is considering it.

Default Vintages 70s Yankees pennants.

Just picked up this batch for $250

Excited to get them in and cleaned up.

Any uncommon ones in the lot?

Excellent buy at that price. I would be interested in a few, if you are looking to move any. Just shoot me a PM, if so... Thanks!

That’s crazy! I gave up trying to count just the Yankees because there are either duplicate Yankees or duplicate photos. How many different Yankees did you get? Are you a Yankees collector or now a pennant collector? In either case, this was a great score for you. You mentioned cleaning…if you attempt this (I would! ), I’d suggest you ask for advice here on a case by case basis. Some of us (me, bocca, fbguy) have had almost every result…from very good to very bad.

Thanks! I cleaned some before and they turned out well! Based on your info from my other pennant post with the signed Munson one, OxyClean worked wonders!

I checked the pictures and there are no duplicate pics. The seller had a lot of Yankees items.

That's a great haul for $250. Quite a few rare ones in there. Your version of Yankees Keezer is more rare than other versions of Yankees Keezer pennant out there. The bootleg with the top hat with names on it is another good one. I wouldn't be afraid to wash anything from the 1970s.

Definitely one of the cooler non-football pennants I’ve seen. Another Collegiate of Ames 3D. How has this stayed together all these years?

It's a pretty common pennant from the 1960s. Assuming both sets of tassels are intact and the tip isn't blunted, $50 is about the right price. There's one available on ebay for $55 at the moment

For any pennant collectors that will be at the Cleveland National, I am bringing alot more vintage pennants than usual. About 1000, all priced (thanks to my wife for the pricing help). I’m at booth 342 for anyone who wants to dig - will have all sports including a lot of rare hockey, minor league baseball, etc.

Nice, Marc. Late 1930s I believe.

Great pennant! Even though yellow and green have nothing to do with our Giants, it's a good color combo.

Great pickup Rob. To bring the thread across to the Bronx, I had these Yankees pennants arrive today.

I know the 1st pennant (with the names around the ball), is the sister pennants to the Dodgers version. I've not seen many of either version but I've seen multiples more of the Dodgers version. Is the Yankees version the rarer of the two?

Great pennants, Gary. I think the Yankees and Dodgers are both extremely rare, especially difficult to find in good condition. Congrats!

What year is that Yankees pennant with the names around the ball? Same (or close to same) batter appears on some Giants pennants.

Actually, I believe the pair dates to 1949. (Dodgers didn't win the pennant in '48.)

Interestingly enough, the Dodger companion pennant bears a copyright mark on it: "1949 H. Wohlke." The US Catalogue of Copyright Entries lists this mark as being associated with one Arthur Rand, presumably the artist responsible for the crossed bats and ball artwork. Unclear if the batter was included in the copyright.....

I haven't found much more on this Arthur Rand. "H. Wohlke" was Henry Wohlke, the apparent owner of the copyright. I suspect Henry Wohlke may have owned the company that made these pennants, but I have yet to confirm this.

Well...I think this pretty much confirms it.

HUGE thanks to our friend Domer for making these incredible Pacific Coast League pennants available to me. The Venice Tigers date the group (two-thirds of the entire PCL) to 1913-15 and Marc has helped pinpoint to the same era from another non baseball pennant in this style. These are all 35” long.

They are already in their custom-fitted holders and up for display. If anyone somehow comes across either the LA Angels or Sacramento Solons from this series, kindly give me a holler.

Also very cool to get this beautiful hand-made repro of the elusive 1916 Dodgers Champions pennant. Incredibly nice!
