My Hobby budget is fairly modest so my approach is to spend 100% of it on cardboard and 0% on plastic.
I also tend to collect in the VG range, which means casual handling of my cards, which I happen to very much enjoy, isn’t likely to reduce whatever value my family will someday realize from them. I can certainly understand what motivates others to collect graded cards. It’s just not something that holds any appeal to me. True even if the service were free and I trusted the graders.
