I have a few hundred searches among three or four different ebay accounts. If I have say 400 searches, on any given day I might have say 60 "hits" I hear you about filing up your inbox, but it is quicker for me to see the 60 "hits" rather then going through all my searches and finding most not having any new listings. As for not seeing up to date listings, if you click the "SEE ALL RESULTS" button at the top of the email it will take you to "new" listings posted since they sent you the email.
