Agree, Wagner and variations of his portrait image in particular have rightfully skyrocketed in the past 1-2 years. A Tip Top sold at auction in Q4 '22 for $15K, and is now exceeding $20K+BP in REA. The significantly more scarce (4 graded copies) W-UNC card just sold via Huggins & Scott auction for $23K+ (nearly caught up with 52 Topps Mick Authentic): https://bid.hugginsandscott.com/bids...?itemid=220195

Isn't this Wags from a notebook cover? Disclaimer: I'm pulling that out of the butt of my increasingly unreliable memory...

Yes, it is from a notebook cover. Here is a link to the set description an Old Cardboard article that includes an image of an intact notebook.

Yes the W-UNC was from a notebook cover, considered a strip card with grading cos since hand cut from that.

I would think the strip card designation was a guess before the complete notebook was known, and is now maybe just an uncorrected designation. I don't know if there's another example of a card cut from a notebook that is designated as a strip card.

T206 Wagner will probably grow the most. Remember op did not say % but what card would grow the most. Wagner will be worth a few extra Million $ in 10 years. Wish I could take my own advice.

Anyone man that collects WNBA cards, is either doing their best virtue signaling act or are kidding themselves. Dont get mad at me for saying it either. I just say what others are thinking, but too afraid to put out there.

LOL. You should watch some games sometime, especially playoffs. The quality of play might surprise you.

Fun (re)read. Thanks for bumping.

The one card/player I don’t see mentioned anywhere in this thread, but whose stuff seems to have really jumped in the last year, is Joe Jackson. His M101-4/5s have gone to the moon, as has his Cracker Jacks and E90-1s. No comps on this baby though….

That is a beautiful card. I picked up a cheap decent looking reprint of it a few days ago for my collection.

Ken Griffey Jr cards will be the next generations Mickey Mantle. Some shiny Griffey 1/1 refractor will sell for $3 million. And you could prob buy it today for $20,000. But none of us will do that.

You read it here first.

I will bump this thread in 2038 so you can see I was right.

Agreed, I think Joe Jackson is being slept on. Another iconic card of his that I think of is the W514. It's tough to price since it's a strip card that doesn't seem to appeal to as many collectors, but it being associated with the year of the Black Sox Scandal makes it historically intriguing I think. I could be biased because I own one though.

And the w514 is plain hideous! Great for sellers as this card has been around 100 years and barely budged until covid

Jackie Robinson and Babe Ruth in my opinion have the biggest long-term upside. These two are the only ones I would say transcend the sport of baseball. These are the names kids learn in history class. I think most collectors here wildly overestimate how many average people could even tell you who Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays were, let alone recognize their 1952 Topps card. I think those HOFs will always have a solid market regardless if people are still alive that have seen them play, just like Cobb, Gehrig, etc. but Ruth and Jackie will always be king in my opinion.

I had a friendly debate on the board a few years ago about what % of true baseball fans (- not the public but die hard baseball fans -) would have any idea who Sherry Magee was. The levels of delusions some people offered up were truly mind boggling.
