Following up on Phil's note, Mickey was one of 9 men who played MLB and who were POWs during WW 2

Who were the others? According to his biography at SABR, Grasso suffered quite a bit as a POW.

#78 Carl Furillo Known as the "Reading Rifle," Furillo was the master of right field at Ebetts. A somewhat complicated man whose career with the Dodgers ended in acrimony, his story as told in Roger Kahn's "The Boys of Summer" is an interesting read.

Phil—the following played MLB ball at one point and were also POWs in WE 2. Not household names, but true heroes. Few had cards

Andy Anderson- Browns
Jim Blackburn- Browns
Augie Donatelli — Ump
Grasso
Dixie Howell- Indians
Phil Marchildon Red Sox
Bill Moison - Cubs
Bert Shepard - Senators
Dizzy Sutherland - Senators
