What makes me Happy?
My youngest boy, while opening packs of 2002 Topps Wax Box; I bought for him to hunt for Mauer's Rookie (just the base card folks; bringing back the fun of my childhood); pulls this and says, "Hey Dad, what's this?". My mouth drops open, grab my '72 Topps (that I opened from packs when I was a kid); show him my card of Kaline. I say, "This".
I still smile every time I look at it.

We went together to the Rosemont Show to get it slabbed.

I almost thought I was the only person that knew about that movie. Whenever I bring it up, no one knows what I’m talking about. I watched Kung Fu Theater religiously when I was a kid.

Quentin Tarantino lists MotFG as one of his favorite movies. I chased that card and that publicity photo for a long time.

This was THE sports moment for me as a kid. I was a rabid Yankees fan and stayed up late watching this game. When Chambliss hit it, I opened the window in the apartment and listened to the city cheering. I even got to go to a game of the Series...which did not go as well. No happy cards of the Big Red Machine crushing the Bombers in four straight.

This is a little different from the rest of the posts which had some very impressive items. This card is of my Granddaughter when she was 4 years old

This E220 card of Groh has always made me smile (because of it depicting Heinie's unique bottle bat, and the fact that parts of three cards can be seen), but just today while posting I was able to figure out that the card just visible on its right side is that of Roger Peckinpaugh). That made me smile some more.

I have been an avid collector for decades and bought collections by the shopping bag full in the late 70's and early 80's which allowed me to complete sets from 1957 to the present day. One set I feel in love with was the '56 Topps set and in particular, the Mantle card. The Mantle was one card that always called my name but I could never pull the trigger on as I just never had the funds.

Years later, I sold the collection and worked on more modern (at that time) sets but about five years ago the '56 set called my name again and I dove in with both feet. I purchased a big chunk of Frankbmd's collection but still, the Mantle eluded me. It wasn't until another collector here on the boards, who sadly, I lost touch with and cannot recall his user name posted he found his childhood collection and he had several Mantles. We were able to come up with a deal for one of his Mantles about four years ago and I have treasured it ever since. This card has great eye appeal and a crease that really does not take away from the overall appeal of the card. This Mantle and Franks cards are the cornerstone of my '56 set.

And a side note, A month or two before we worked out the MAntle deal, I found a 2012 Heritage Mike Trout just sitting in a box that I had no idea I even had. This card was found when it was on fire so I sent it off to SGC to get graded and it came back a 10 and I promptly sold it and used the funds from this sale to purchase the MAntle. I tend to look at the Mick as the card I literally got for free.

I find myself coming back to this thread.

This card will forever hold a special place in my collecting memories. I've told parts of this story before. Many years ago, up in Cooperstown NY I wandered into a small show a the Cooperstown Veterans Club, right across the street from the Hall of Fame. I was 10 years old. I spoke about cards to two very kind Gentlemen, one of them was Dealer George Mollyn, who is still somewhat active in local shows (last I checked) around the PA area. I chewed his ear off about the 1933 and 1934 Goudey sets. The other was our resident expert, and fantastic person, Ted Zanidakis.

After joining here many years later, I reconnected with Ted. We exchanged many emails, however looking back on it, I wish we exchanged more. Constantly having conversations centered around baseball. Especially players from Ted's youth. Phil Rizzuto always managed to come up in our conversations as well. When I finally had the opportunity to meet Ted in person, I went to the first Philly Show after Covid, over to Ted and Dan McKee's booths. We again talked cards and baseball for quite sometime. It's an experience that I will forever remember.

Ted in his showcase had this Phil Rizzuto card. It may have been a coincidence but I'd chalk it up to fate. I knew I had to purchase it. It will stay in this holder and be part of my collection until the end of my days. Ted touched many lives, and I thoroughly enjoyed being able to talk to him. I would like to think he is looking over us, but knowing Ted, he's arguing with Burdick over some obscure issue involving Tobacco cards.

I started collecting vintage baseball cards back in the '70s. Therefore, I was able to accumulate a decent lot of Topps and Bowman HOF cards from the '50s, which made me pretty happy back then, and I do have quite a few of those same issues today. But for the most part, I'm really not super nostalgic about them. For me, today, it's the novelty of obtaining something that was either unavailable or unaffordable back then that makes me happy, like these . . .
