Well, definitely not Drugged Earwig for me.
But a few that took me a long time to hunt down make me smile the biggest every time I see them. |

Well, you asked for it. Not Pre-War, and not even the right sport. :D
1978 Topps Gary Green Rookie Card 4 time Pro-Bowler and 5 time All-Pro. Member of the Kansas City Chiefs Ring of Honor and Chiefs Hall of Fame. No, I don't have any special attachment to Gary Green or the Kansas City Chiefs. Several years ago my dad was renovating his kitchen with my mom (the house I grew up in). He pulled out the kitchen radiator and tucked behind the panel was this lone football card from my childhood. I used to practice "Knockdowns" against that radiator as a child. Not to brag, but I was the "King" of knockdowns and all the other various sports card games we played in Elementary and Middle school. To the point we'd get to a certain point in the school year, and nobody would want to play against me anymore. I'd take everybody else's cards, and was probably waaaaaay too competitive about it. I'd win hundreds of cards and add them to my pile every week. I was kind of an as#hole about it to be honest. I know, it's like saying I was the fastest kid in the 4th grade at my small town school. It doesn't really mean anything. If only I was as good at actual baseball as I was at throwing a card straight out of a wax pack, at another card set up against a wall, I might have made something of myself. ;);) Anyways, this is the one lone card I have left from those days of trading card dominance. Found in a kitchen radiator about 40 years after my card throwing prime. My dad remembered me practicing against that very radiator enough to call me in excitement as soon as he found it tucked back there. I've been carrying it around in my wallet ever since, just like Bob Costas carries around his Mickey Mantle card in his. As you can see, my wallet has taken much more of a toll on the card then a game of knockdowns and decades of radiator dirt and grime took on it. |

These all make me happy! I'll be even happier when I can add the one missing...Cobb Green. That's my goal in 2023...get me a Cobb Green in Poor to Fair condition. Of all of these, the Matty makes me the happiest.

Call me odd, but the fact that this Cracker Jack card is permanently attached to the 3/4" wooden plaque just makes me smile, and I love that the back text of the card has been copied onto the back of the plaque.

The Ruth gifting his teacher and mentor Brother Matthias a new car with his wife and Fred Merkle! Hard to get much cooler than that! |
This my favorite card. It makes me smile when I see it. A while back, someone on the forum posted a card that printed on the back of it. Said the player run's like a sissy. The pose for this player fits that description.

It really makes me smile too. <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/142640322@N08/51701729199/in/dateposted-public/" title="1907-09 H M Taylor Donovan Jennings and Chance (1) [Front]"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51701729199_3cd596f7aa_b.jpg" width="975" height="641" alt="1907-09 H M Taylor Donovan Jennings and Chance (1) [Front]"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |
Just love this L.Brock rookie. Centered better than most, and for some reason (even though I'm a Phillies fan) I just like L. Brock growing up he was just a cool player.

I really like this card. I was lucky enough to go to my first big strongman show in August and got to see him compete. He is the GOAT of strongman and second place is closer to 10th than there are to Big Z. The Arnold Classic is known as the heaviest competition. Big Z won it 6 years in a row and 8 times overall. Second most wins is Brian Shaw and Hafpor Bjornsson(Thor) tied at 3 wins apiece.

These two make me happy for different reasons.
I've always liked the image and colors on the Fromme and I very happy to own one so I can look at it whenever I want to. And the Hannifan is the first prewar card I ever bought, and it got me hooked on prewar and Jersey City Skeeters cards. . |

Not a card per se but interesting. Some here will be familiar with a fairly scarce but widely seen "Chicago White Sox at Royal Gorge" postcard. It's a colorized view of all the players outside their train along a famous river gorge and bridge with Big Ed Walsh and etc. They were on their way west for spring training. Bunch of people here had a lot of fun about a decade ago when I posted mine and asked folks to ID some of the players. A wild month ensued with people intent on IDing every single player! Fun.
Anyway: this inspired me to find and purchase--at a state railway archive--an original black and white photo from the same shoot in a slightly different spot. One of a kind. Here it is. Feel free to ID players! https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1672792245 |
